Sorry, what were you saying? I got distracted by something else in the lower right background of that last picture 😝.

I started digging into my winter projects a little bit. I’m getting started a little later than I wanted to, but I just haven’t been able to convince myself to go work in the cold garage.

My winter project is to replace the clutch, rear main seal, amongst many other seals and gaskets. So, today, I started by removing the seats so I could remove the transmission tunnel.

I went to rebuild a Aisin/Toyota clutch slave cylinder and to my suprise the piston was missing a seal. The new piston/rebuild kit is from @cruiseroutfit .Making it better than new.

Wild. Surprised it was working with that inner ring missing and the outer so worn.

Fortunately rebuilds are so quick/easy to do

If I recall, it didn't last long. I knew it was rebuildable without looking.

Since this project is in my future, it sure would be helpful if you would kindly document your progress. (perhaps a seperate thread that could be easily accessed and updated). Thanks!

Got to thinking while going through an old to-do list on the 55. Despite all the new stuff and work put in I couldn't recall ever changing the spark plugs.

I was right. They were trash. However, even though they were really bad they weren't soaking in neither oil nor fuel so at least that's good.

All the carbon buildup.

Those do not look horrible to me, but yeah they're cheap and easy to change. If you have carbon buildup on the spark plug, you also have carbon buildup on your head and that piston, but that's not such a big deal on these tractor motors - will bump your compression a little bit. :)

I have seen worse for sure!

Instead of buying new, just rotate the carboned plugs to a good cylinder. They will naturally clean up. You might break up some of the crusty chuncks b4 swapping. Looking at the center electrode those plugs look relatively new. They also look like you might be running a little rich. You might be able to bump up your timing a touch also. I had a sbc with one weak cyldr. When I started feeling a miss I would swap it to a good cylinder.

It was a job I wanted to do anyway. Should've done this to baseline before the Sniper install in the first place. And yeah they're cheap enough to just replace 'em.
