What have you done to your 100 Series this week?

Got to do an alternator at a Cub Scout Campout. Luckily I got there early and was able to get another dad to buy one on the way there.
Not that fun in a well lit garage. Kudos to you doing it at a camp out. Are you going to get your Land Cruiser merit badge???

Not at all. We were able to wiggle it out without taking off the fan shroud or radiator hoses, though. I was under it and my friend was above. Only had to take off the power steering pump which you have to do anyway. But we were able to just tuck the PS out of the way. About 70mi from home with just a set of wrenches.

Lots more to do. I'm going to have someone else do the timing belt, though.

3000mile tire rotation, change oil + filter and wheel + caliper Iron decontamination.

Wait ... what is that brake setup? Apologies if you've posted it already. Love the wheels, too. Edit, never mind -- I found it: For Sale - Big Brake Kit (BBK) for 100 and 200 series Land Cruiser / LX470/LX570, 5x150 hub - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/big-brake-kit-bbk-for-100-and-200-series-land-cruiser-lx470-lx570-5x150-hub.1362029/

“What have you done to your 100 Series this week?”?? Well, we totaled it. 😔 Snowbank rollover at about 55-60 mph.

Daughter was driving with a friend and they walked away without a scratch.

EDIT - clarity of who was in the vehicle
Geez I'm glad that everyone is OK.

This speaks to my concerns about how this vehicle was designed and built before roof-crush standards (and the subsequent use of high-boron steel in roof pillars etc.) were enacted. It's the Achilles' heel of the vehicle IMO, well that and heater tees.

Oof. Thanks for posting this.

Replaced the motor in the driver door lock mechanism on the 07 LX. I bought the non collared motors based on other’s experience here, and lo and behold it had a collared shaft. Luckily I had a leftover from my 2000 LC to finish the job.

On Sunday Feb 8th I was 20 minutes from home after driving 11 hours back from King Of The Hammers. At 1:30 A.M. a horse had gotten loose and wandered on to the interstate. I hit it and rolled several times, crashing through the center median barricade. Fire/Ems in Fruita, CO was able to rip my door open to extract and get me to the hospital. I was there for 10 days, suffered from a broken T3 vertebrae, broken right hand, bruised lungs, brain bleed, 17 staples in my head, a tramatic brain injury and cuts/bruises all over the place. I have zero memory of the horse or crash. My last memory is getting gas in St. George, Utah about 4 hours before it happened. A 17 year old kid who I haven’t met yet, was returning home to Denver from KOH also hit the horse after I did but was able to pull over and I believe he called 911.

I’m home now, recovery is going well but I know time needs to do its thing.

Always wear your seat belt, God is good, and drive a Land Cruiser.

@plaidwagon

Hey Kyle, I was so happy to hear of your progress and I know pretty much exactly what you're going through
although I didn't have any head injuries which I'm sure are super scary. Glad you're still among the living!
And sorry about your 100. That stinks.

Wow!
2nd rollover pic I’ve seen today of the roof crushed into the front passengers! Maybe I need to add a roll cage.

That is one bad accident, glad everyone is ok.

Replaced the timing belt last weekend. About 16 hours of work, cleaning, etc. Far more involved than a 3rd gen 4Runner or v6 Camry.

348K now on truck, so I assume this is the 3rd belt. The belt (which had 105K on it) looked like new, and the water pump was tight, but the fan bracket was clearly worn out - axial play and a big grease stain in the back side.

Buy this crank holder tool for $21 on Amazon - really, you need it! Very sexy and easy to use - holds the harmonic balancer with a deathgrip.

Total parts price - Aisin timing belt kit, Aisin fan bracket, seals, coolant, etc. - from Rock Auto - $403.

I have a similar tool, what watch is that?:hmm:

Glad you survived that crash.

These crushed roof pics are making me nervous. Hell, part of the reason I got rid of my jeep was seeing one too many pics/videos of occupants flying out of the vehicle during rollovers (not the issue in this instance, I know). I guess I should’ve done more research of roof standards through the years.
