Short answer, no. Legally, marine radios can't be used on land. If you can transmit on a frequency that another user in the group can receive, which isn't going to be on one of the marine channels, there is still a license requirement.I found an old marine vhf Uniden I had for the boat.

Transmit power shouldn't be an issue. A 50w in the group doesnt cause any problem with the little HTsI think the big thing with using marine radios is they may be too powerful and mess up other Communications - from what I’ve read it’s illegal to use unless you’re on a boat. Take this with a grain of salt as I’m no expert but if you have a radio that’s equivalent in wattage to regular handheld radios (5-8w) - I’d assume you’d be fine. marine radios easily get to 25 Watt. there is a great appeal to using a marine radio though and that’s the weather alerts and possibility of being waterproof / resistant
