What do I need to know? (1 Viewer)

My some and his friends have decided to have a battlebot contest. ( Whatever happend to that show?).
The first thing we need to get is the r/c controls...transmitter, reciever..servos.
I know tha basics form our Traxxis trucks, but dont know how to buy just the electronics.
I see mant 4 channel transmitters on Ebay, along with servos. How do I match up what I need?
I am hoping to get 4 individual actions.

One resource I keep going back to for various robotics/electronics things is RobotShop (RobotShop | Robot Store | Robots | Robot Parts | Robot Kits | Robot Toys), although their selection of r/c systems might be a little limited? (rc section: Remote Control - RobotShop)

What kind of thing are you thinking of building? What kind of electronics experience do you have? You might need to get a micro-controller to serve as a motor/servo controller, depending on the complexity of the robot.

If you're looking for something where the robot just moves around and spins a blade/moves an arm, a 4-channel system on its own with some esc's for the motors could work. If you want something a bit more complicated, like pistons or something, a micro-controller would be needed to activate those systems.
