Installed running boards on Linda's 2013 4Runner. She had the pretty "Limited" rocker panels and I had to replace them with the off-road rockers to bolt up the running boards.

Not bad. My 2011 Trail had running boards that had angles at each end and one got damaged by a hung of metal on the highway. I bought a used set like these to replace the broken one and the other one on the other side to match.

I’ve been getting oil inside the spark plug tube for cyl 3 on my 2011 4R. When too much oil gets in there it causes misfires. The general consensus online is that this is caused by the spark tube gasket in the valve cover allowing oil to enter. So I decided to replace the valve cover and spark tube gaskets. There is so much crap/brackets/wires in the way it took a while to get the valve cover off. And some moron decided to use green loctite the last time the valve cover was removed. Oh, and I haven’t reassembled it because I discovered the Toyota parts counter guy gave me the wrong part for one of the valve covers from the stock shelf (even though the part # on the invoice is correct). On the bright side, the underside of the cover and the cams look fantastic for an engine with 300k miles on it.

Throw in some 3 degree retard cam hears while you have it apart

Why? I just want the oil to stop leaking into the spark tube causing a misfire and out of the valve covers.

Small improvement in performance, better gas mileage.

Interesting. But the link details and all the images show it being installed on the first gen 1GR with single VVTI (4th gen 4R). Mine is a 2011 (5th gen) with the second gen, dual VVT heads, so there is a different gear system on the exhaust cam than in those images

I worked on revovery after a fun full day of skibiking at Wolf Creek
recovery as in a vehicle recovery or recovering yourself after skiing like a mofo?

You’re right, my apologies.

Body recovery after skiing (ski biking) like a mofo! 😆
How’s the snow? We like to go to WC every February, but the snow reports look a little thin for our taste. 😢

We feel your pain about Loctite "fixes". We've seen Loctite/epoxy used in conjunction with head gasket replacement.

Update: Got the correct part from Toyota, replaced the valve cover gasket, spark plug tube seals, and the three o-rings that help oil get between the cam holder and the valve cover. Cleaned the threads from all the bolts with loctite on it. Reassembled and then drove 700 miles to Austin, around Austin for 3 days and 700 miles home. No misfires. No leaks. Now to plan when to do the same on the driver side. Two vehicles need oil changes and the ES needs rear struts so those will come first.

Driving to work this morning and this happened!
t100 ouch.webp

I was able to walk away. Just need to get the T100 ready for the next demolition derby.😁

Oh no! Details?
I got T-boned and the truck spun 270 degrees or 3/4 of a donut. Wrong place wrong time and I was heading to work early...

Getting the FJ ready for camping next weekend. Dallas Sterling 3d printed rear door latch mod. Removed passenger rear seat bottom for maximum length. Folding table + plywood is almost perfect for the rear height difference.
