Last Sunday, Horseshoe Lake, northeast of Phoenix. The problem:

That's Jim S. in his pristine LX with a Warn 9k in the front, and Claudia in our LX, serving as anchor for the winch vehicle. I got to run the winching operations...
We were on dry ground, the others were in chocolate pudding. The JK got stuck first trying to get to the water line. The 4-runner had tried to pull him out, and got dug in in the process. The FJC had the same noble motive in trying to rescue the 4-runner, but suffered a similar fate.
This is lake bottom, they drain these lakes every few years, and while there's reeds growing, it doesn't mean it's a good idea to drive on this stuff. The water is the old channel of the Verde River. This is the lowest I've ever seen it; the original boat ramp is at least 30 feet higher...
Anyways, it took a bit (FJC with cable, the others with cable and threaded tow straps...
), but we got them all out...
They offered money, I turned them to Jim whose winch did the trick, and he told them to help the next guy when it's their turn...
Two funny little tidbits...
I get to the JK, the wife of the owner just got splattered with mud while trying to push the vehicle, and I couldn't help it: " Excuse me, m'am, but there are some ladies who are actually paying for mud treatments..."
The same lady later actually told Lorna (Jim's wife): "I can't believe this happened. It's equipped with EVERYTHING..." And the JK indeed did have everything, 35" MTRs, lockers, etc. ...but no winch in the back...

My 13 year old son damn near cried when I told him I was going to sell my 80. He wants it when he turns 16. So I sold the 70 diesel instead and that means I need to find another 80 for me...
I let him drive it out in fields. He helps work on it somewhat. He's learning a little bit...along with me.

4 Runner guy, as Michael strings the winch line to the FJC: "you guys seem to be knowing what you are doing . . . " - "we do what we can . . ."
later: "how long have you guys been wheeling ?" - "don't ask, we are old
" (actually, I told him that I have wheeled the 40 for 10 years now; he had kinda heard about those . . . ) - and he was really concerned about the 170K mileage on his truck - "I wouldn't worry much before twice that as long as you keep keep maintaining it, and squeeze as much moly into the knuckles you can" 
all around, it was a pretty smooth operation, thanks to Jim's winch and confident leadership by Michael

Did the HIR headlight update. Makes a huge difference.
Also installed the wire harness and these new LED spot lights. Went fairly smoothly once I realized there are two grounds...
Now I can see at night!

went to big bear to test out the smittybilt roof top tent
really worked out well....230lbs of me slept pretty well and off the ground... just wished it would have snowed, but it did not.
if anyone is looking to buy one...get the ladder extension...I am on 37" tires with a 4" lift springs. just wish i had a little more head room

Took the family for a drive to the frontera. Stopped by the Marcos de Niza monument and zigzagged through some national forest on home.
Got the Indel B 30 qt fridge, JDM rear spoiler and YotaTeq's Snorkel grille ( along with side and rear light mounts...)
Hoping the rain let's up so I can wire tomorrow and that my S-Pod finally shows up....
The Indel is exactly the size I wanted - it wouldn't work for hardcore expedition trips but I can balance that out with keeping beer in the yukon - it started right up and is busy chilling some frosties ! For the price it meets my needs and will save a ton of melted ice....
BUt- I can tell some sort of rear drawers are in my future....
The JDM rear spoiler will take just a minor tweaking of the inner lip to fit the rear ladder.... luckily it's plexi so it should be heatable... love the adjsutable vents... !!
The ToyaTeq grille works.... not a perfect fit but then this is the one for the "real" kit not my chinese Dorkle.... but it fits well and will keep squirrels and small children out..... the only change needed it looks like would be the side frame is slightly longer.
Yotateq's packing of the grille, ditch mounts and rear mounts is a testament to customer service - truly a great feeling when you opne the package and see a handwritten note thanking you... so far I've only gotten the rear light mount on but look to get the ditch lights on Sunday....anyone have tips for those ? haven't had a chance to search yet.

The old girl got some time on the lift, bled the brakes (PO had all sorts of air in the system) and mocked up my old yakima bike rack rails so I could start developing some ideas on how to create a rear roof rack.
