What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Spent way too much time cleaning out gunk and lubricating pass side rear sliding window so I could get the latch closed all the way. Repeated brute force effort finally got it. Not going to open ever again until I take the glass out for a repaint at some point in the future.

Also ordered all external bulbs (except headlights) in LEDs and cleaned up / put rust reformer on the base of my bottle jack.

Also picked up drivelines from the shop new OEM joints and balance job along with all new hardware. They even gave her a fresh paint job. Ujoints suck and at $100 a piece for labor its well worth the money.

Getting ready for ice blasting the undercarriage, Raptor-line the wheel wells, repaint frame and cross-members, and have 30-year industrial undercoating applied. Should look close to brand new when done to match the new paint job!

I’m really contemplating doing this also. What’s a rough price point? I would imagine $2500-3k.

Yeah, closer to $4K as added the frame painting and wheel wells otherwise $3K without that. Just saw it after the first pass of ice blast and already looks like new so pretty excited to see it finished. Just in time to hand it back to Johnny and crew @Cruisers and Co for the intercooler upgrade as well as new 4.88 gears!

What model Subaru?
They were listed as out of a 2001 Forester. Bought them via FB Marketplace so I can't say for sure. The seats themselves are great but the retrofit was a bugger as the seat rails are different left to right side and required a lot of fiddling to fab up the mounts for the 80 floor pan. Had I understood that beforehand I likely would have picked something different. Wisdom gained!

How hard was this. I got a set of 2003 subaru seats I want to put in my cruiser.
To be honest it was a pain the arse. The reason these seats were more difficult than what I have seen documented here for other make of seats is that the seat rails don't match from side to side. So it was a lot of fiddling to figure it out on the first one. Once I had the pattern the second seat took an afternoon to fab the mounts. DM me for more deets if you would like, I can share pics.

On the 96, installed new Speedo sensor o-ring (no after pic). Cleaned up years of dirt from the baby

pot under the air filter box. On my 91, I don’t think I even discover this existed until at least a year into ownership.

Doing some while I’m in there stuff… putting a new parking brake boot on.

The Alpine head that I’m installing requires a splice into the parking brake switch wire (nanny state bull**** that used to be bypassable by simply grounding the sensor wire… not anymore… unless I splice in a specific bypass unite and diode for the attached amp). So, Rather than splicing into the harness in the DS footwell, it seems much easier to splice directly into the switch wire at the brake lever itself… here.

Does that seem like a logical solution?
