What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (61 Viewers)

Invisible mod to most, subtle to some and obvious to other 80 peeps.
When I had it re-geared I also had it converted to part time along with TC re-gearing, so I felt this was necessary.

Got a very nice HDJ81 in the shop for some work. You can tell when they are not rollbacks and this one is certainly not with 105,000kms.

Yeah I looked at a few before I got mine. Some of them I was very very suspicious of and passed on. Then once I saw the one I bought I realized my suspicions were on point. I've got about 109k miles and the inside of mine feels like a time machine. Everything is pristine still. I definitely encourage people who come to me interested in buying one to really be patient and do their homework

Sorry for the dirty engine bay :p

Got my PVC hoses and brake booster hose from Wits End today.....now just waiting for my oil catch can to arrive.

PVC hose and rubber gromit just fell apart while trying to remove it

wrapped wire harness near EGR pipe

So far no more PO401 code, no more Orange engine check light, goodness...

now that's how you route a PHH. I did the same thing. When I did it, I was thinking, the original hose is a 2 inch section of rubber in direct contact with the block. on its other end is non-pliable steel pipe. ofcourse its going to blow. Solution: make the softer part longer! Engine bay looks great!

Can’t beat a Mohawk! And now, unfortunately, you can’t find them either.......

They had a good run for sure. Quit making canoes. Something about the last supplier of Royalex in the US quit making the product so they no longer could make their canoes.

I really like mine.

Installed: Double Cardan DS from Tatton. I’ve seen negative reviews on his 80 series DS. The Jeep crowd seems to be ok with Curtis’ work.

Spicer 1310 joints: had them in past rigs and have never had one fail. This DS uses those joints.

Initial impressions: vibration is gone so there is that. I check my ujoints maybe once a month, I’ll report if something goes wrong.

Yokes and H-yoke are definitely thicker than the stock 80 and Tacoma’s respectively.

Slip joint is definitely a simpler design than the stock one.

weights is heavier. H-yoke, thicker wall and thicker yokes.

Price: $325

If it breaks: Tacoma and 4 runner shafts sitting in my garage. I can have them resized if need be.

Time to install front axle seal! My buddy just made me an installation tool, I think it’s a work of art!

Installed oil catch can today

routed hoses under intake and made sure they were clear of vacuum lines (not up against em)....for a clean install

I can unscrew catch can in that location no problem to drain out oil

Would like a 90deg 3/8's elbow off of valve cover for better angle.

Getting 4.88's so we gotta pull the 4.10s--I forgot why I was putting in 4.88's and was reminded by @richardlillard1 it was about "mechanical advantage"! I've no idea what that means but I know when to nod, "of course, of course!" What's even better is the 4.88's are being put in by a gent named ZUK (ZooK)!

I like those novas. This prompted me to look at craigslist again and whaddaya know - found an odyssey model. Been looking for this model for years, so it was worth the drive to Savannah. Would look better on the 80, but saving on the mpgs.
