What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (50 Viewers)

Decided to spruce up my hood and the hood insulator pad. The pad was mostly in one piece but it had become worn around the edges and the back side was delaminating. Decided to use some black synthetic ribbon that is 3" wide to go around the edges. I used 3M Super 77 which worked pretty well. Still need to melt a few more holes for the body plugs, but it should look better and last for awhile if the glue holds. I could zip it through my sewing machine if it starts to peel. I glued down all of the backing on the back side too and shot more glue over the seams for good measure.

I touched up a few rust spots on the hood too, but decided I didn't care to burn through a can of color match paint for something that rarely gets seen and just spot painted some POR15 with a small brush instead. Good enough. Not sure this is the final hood this truck will have, but it's decent and the one I have right now. This should be functionally fine for the foreseeable future and the pad does look better.

Are replacement hood insulator pads still available?

Installed new Pioneer NEX head unit. Has apple/android play, bluetooth, xm and such. It has been a life changing week so far. Have been using the 80 as my commuter instead of my 200. I had an extra shift console that was a little beat up so i experimented with putting a USB port in it similar to the 200. Not sure if i want it here long term or not. May still put it in one of the blanks on the dash or maybe one of the coin hold slots in the center console. Audio quality for phone quality for phone calls is amazing.

What are the parts in the tailgate?

Have any more pics of box build?

Thanks

They are just boat hatches in the tailgate. I believe @LandCruiserPhil has a thread about it.

Not really, but if you send me a PM i can give you more details about the build if you want.

Replaced all 4 u joints trying to fix my grrrr. Didn’t fix s***, but at 264k they needed replacing. I am thinking its my wheel bearings. With or without my front ds, i still get grrr’s, its just less pronounced.

At high speed on the highway (65~) in sweeping turns i get a vibration on either side. I checked by jacking up the truck, no play top to bottom or front to back, spin a wheel and it feels smooth, lock to lock is smooth. It almost feels like a motor mount but its only at high speeds, not rpm and my mounts look good.

Im lost. Whent weeling anyway, hit widowmaker at sycamore and had a hell of a time getting up, slick as snot! I was not alone as a bunch of other locked up jeeps struggled except one showoff with a 4cyl unlocked but at 10psi on tire just crawled up, but not the hardest chute. Finally made it up with 20 psi in the tires.

Mine has the same issue, I am convinced that it has to be the Tcase. New U joints, new bearings on all the wheels, front end rebuild, and no change. Pull front DS and rear DS too, nothing has given even a hint of changing the noise. Although I did put new speakers in and I can drown it out now! o_O

Not the weekend but kids went to sleep on time......

@landtank HD sway bar links(correct lift height), HD sway bar brackets and 30mm HD swaybar really changed how this 6100lb old girl handles, it’s like when she is young and lighter again. She still is no sports car but now she isn’t scary around the curve anymore, it is just awesome!

Also installed LT bumpstop spacer “while I’m in there”.

That's literally the only hose in my 80 that hasn't been replaced. I have a brand new Toyota one sitting in the center console. I tried for about 30 minutes one day to get it done....no luck. :(

It’s not hard if you remove the throttle body. Pick up a few big cans of throttle body cleaner and clean it while it’s off.

Install looks good. I recently did mine as well (and later installed a back up camera.) I decided to use one of the blanks on the dash for my USB input. You can see how it looks in my pseudo-build thread, Aug 3rd post #150.

Changed oil, checked/topped up fluids. Getting ready to drive to northern Alberta for a week of hunting. Oh and put on some turbo decals.

Filled my auxiliary tank, it seems there is a small leak in the air return or Main filler hose to the auxiliary tank, I'll have to fix it after the trip, it only leaks a bit during filling, and at least it's just diesel.

I've got the air out of the bags as it sits out front so it squats low in the picture, and mounted the RTT and cargo carrier up top last night.

I'm thinking about posting pictures of the week long trip, what subforum would be best? I've heard a few americans talk about traveling into Canada, I'd like to post more pictures of what the terrain and conditions are like. I'll be sleeping in the roof tent for a week starting saturday evening, but leaving today after work.

Edit, just started a thread, seems like things are going sideways before I leave the office...

You don't need to entirely remove the throttle body, remove all four bolts and loosen it enough to get the hose off and on again, but you're going to have to disconnect some additional hoses, oh, take off the intake first. Clean out the tuna can while you're at it, ahhahahaa. Ahem.

Please educate me. What is the tuna can?

After over 14,000 miles of ownership, my D light decided to randomly start working. I don't think I like it, now it catches my eye and I think I'm in second gear for a split second

Oh, we know you just wanted to show off the low miles on your 80!

The dirt removal can mounted on the bottom of the intake filter housing. It has two snap clips to remove it from the bottom to be emptied. It is about the size of a tuna can.
