Anyone have any ideas why my oem bushings were installed in this orientation while the fsm showed otherwise? Should I install it back this way or follow the fsm? Thanks

There is actually a TSB that orients the bushing direction. Yours are installed in the correct orientation.

Thank you. I installed the new bushings in the same orientation I found it which is the same as the "New" orientation . I took off the LCA and found the bushings installed in the "New" orientation. Mine is the '97, I guess they changed it.

I just wrapped up 2,850 miles in the 80 from Atlanta to New England for a 12 day trip including the Vermont Overland Rally and Yankee Toys Fall Gathering. Whew! What a great trip!

The variety of vehicles at VOR was fun. Unimog, Pinz, Taco... It doesn't look like it in this photo but even the MB G-wagen was getting wheeled HARD.

While there was a good bit of forest road driving like this, some of the Class 4 'roads' presented a fun challenge to those who weren't fully locked.

From Vermont, I took the ferry across Lake Champlain for a quick detour up to Montreal then down to Lake Placid. The view from Cascade was totally worth the hike.

Then back to the ferry across Lake Champlain to Vermont...

...and on to Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. I drove the Auto Road up, then hiked down to Lakes of the Clouds.

Fortunately, this sign was not necessary on the day I hiked there.

To be continued...

From Mt. Washington, I pushed my way over to Hermit Island just outside Bath, Maine. Again the weather gods were smiling.

After a quick (obligatory) stop in Freeport for some shopping, I made it over to New Hampshire to set up camp for Yankee Toys' Fall Gathering.

...where I discovered their definition of a "moderate" trail. My 80 is fully locked and armored and it ALL came in handy. What a GREAT wheeling day that was. A broken rear sway mount was the only non-cosmetic damage.

The next day I decided not to press my luck since I needed to drive back down to Baltimore, so we took it easier. It was a great day crawling through the woods with some other 80s.

And so the trip ends with the 80 in storage in Baltimore, awaiting a trip next month to NC's Outer Banks. Since I bought her up in Seattle, the 80 has seen 28 states and about 6000 miles. I hope to color in some of those big western states next year!

I just use a little press brake. It will do four at a time in 1/4" x 3" hot rolled.
Can I bother you for a picture. I have a little brake press and I can only do one side, then when I start bending the second side, the first side hits the side of the brake, not allowing the full bend.

Fun filled weekend.

Cruiser got a new bed, and Sunday we drove up Buckhorn Road to Penncock Pass. Great day, perfect fall weather. It was one of those days with the Cruiser and the family where you wish the day wouldn't end.

On the down-side, dog isn't doing so well. Walking is difficult for her and I tried to pick her up in the same way I always have and she yelped....she may be passing on to the great wheeling trail in the sky in the very near future. We've known she's had cancer for about a year and opted for pain management after the life she's had (both front legs scoped, scraped, and rebuilt, laser eye surgery, eye removed, spleen removed, mass removed off her chest, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something) She's been my climbing partner, backpacking partner, and protector of the family for the last 13 years, I couldn't ask for a better friend.

:( Beautiful dog man. Sorry to hear. Can't imagine and am dreading the day.

I noticed mine with the same broken clip, zip tied mine as well, but had it wrapped in this fiberglass foil heat shield first.

I thought about adding heat shielding as well, but didn't have any on hand and knew if I waited until I got some to do the job, it would be a long time before I got it taken care of and the wire harness might be toast by then. I plan to add some later. Thanks for posting what you used. I wasn't sure what to use for shielding.

Overland Expo East 2016! Spent a day prior exploring some woodsy trails, then on the Biltmore Estate enjoying the expo activities and oogling the amazing rigs that showed up from all over the planet. Great learnings from the Camel Trophy team too!

GREAT DAY

View attachment 1333668

My family just went through this. Put my Newf down the end of August. 12.5 yrs old, which is a fine old age for a pooch that size. Loved his car rides, camping, swimming. Totally trustworthy, never had to worry about him wandering off. He couldn't get the hind end up anymore, the front was starting to get weak. Then he could only walk 20' before the back end would collapse. And he has losing his bowels every other day. Damn mind was still there which made it all the harder. Still tears me up when I think about it.

I wish you the best when the time comes. It sounds like she has had a wonderful family, which in the end is all we can ask for.
