Drum brakes suck! On another note I did the brakes on a friends Prius a couple of weeks ago and it’s the exact same design scaled down. I guess when Toyota has a good idea in the 60s they stick with it.

I don't mind drum brakes so much anymore....not as easy to work on as discs but so satisfying when all cleaned and serviced. A lot of Euro cars use a design on the rear brakes which are disc brakes for the main system but have an internal drum brake assembly that uses the hat of the disc as the drum. It works quite well but it can be a real nightmare to change rotors due to a rust ridge that can form.

80s, 100s, and plenty of domestic trucks use that drum-in-hat ebrake design as well.

its a nice design should you ever want to fit something like a Wilwood caliper since you don't have to worry about losing the parking brake.

Tested my carb fan (it works), pulled the relay (pretty sure it’s dead), and mounted my cb on the side of the console (super simple).

Why is my console different?

Had the same issue, ended up mounting it to the side. Now I have three cupholders instead of two.
So BH3D said that halfway through the 87 model year, the console changed to the 62 style. They told me to order the single and they would send me a return lable. So I did, and got the double 62 style as well. So soon I'll have 5! 3 in front, 2 on the back. If that isn't enough then I will have to give up coffee.

It's Cascade Audio Engineering VB-2 vibration dampener which doubles as the vapor barrier replacement. It's thin and more form-able than Dynamat type foil topped butyl stuff.
I'm worried about putting these kinds of adhesive sound deadeners over metal since there inevitably will be some rust underneath it especially where two sheet metal pieces overlap and you can't fully treat any rust in between. The sound deadener will trap the rust and allow it to grow unnoticed, like Ziebart coatings underneath on the chassis. And it is so sticky you can't realistically get it off without making a huge mess to fix the rust if it grows. Am I right to be concerned?

Mmm, not sure that's right. 60s had a shallower center console until halfway through 84 production year, then the deeper center console through the end of the 60. When 62 production started, they had a slightly different center console (8/87 production month is fj62).

The FJ62 console has provisions for the rear heater, which moved from under the front passenger seat.

I'm aware. What I'm saying is that the FJ62 specific console was never in a 60. As far as I know, 60s always had the rear heater under the PS front seat.

Distributor stop pin bushing, cleaned everything in the distributor, reset rotor gap and confirmed vac advance functionality. New plugs wires, cap and rotor button. Then reset ignition timing.

Home Depot Aluminum bushing, from the hardware section. #8 I.D X 1/4" O.D. X 1/4" H.

Press fit with a dab of super glue for reassurance.

Got the LED lights in the front and rear bumpers few weeks ago. Was on call for work this weekend and had a busy Saturday. I decided to go into work yesterday as I figured there would be calls and could possibly have time to work on the 60. Decided to start wiring in the LED lights.

There was room side by side for the two toggles to the right of the steering column.
Wired left for the front and right for the rear.

It was a hot yesterday but low humidity with a dry East wind. Working in the shop was hot but at least I wasn’t dripping sweat due to humidity. First day this year above the century mark, one more maybe today and hopefully that’s it.

This is waaaay toooo clean to be a land cruiser.

I used to let me daughter drive the 60 to high school on bad snow days. She hated it, but all her friends (especially guy friends) were super impressed
