I received 1 drawer of my ARB Prado rear storage system, fridge drop down, and fridge order...the rest is still en route. Also got my SPOD for electrical, and my Lotus axles! Just need my front springs to come in (going to 650#) and my rear jounce cap replacement (I forgot to loctite it, oops) and I can start in on the front jounce, axles, springs, and electrical, as well as finish up the storage solution. Only things left after that are solar and wait for my 34s to wear out and I am going 35s!

This is being delivered to my door today. Will be working on mounting it to the back cargo door in the coming weeks.

I think this is one of the best deals on their site besides the Wolf Packs I already have.

And I plan to buy a new top for one of my Wolf Packs as soon as it is in stock.

Yeah the only Mod my budget can afford right now :p

Just opened it and here are my immediate impressions.

It is heavy! Just shy of 20lbs on the bathroom scale.

It was a 8!tch to open, felt like I was going to injure a finger. Granted it is not mounted yet.

Speaking of mounting not to sure about the turn Nuts that are supplied but if I don't like them at least I have plenty of RivetNuts and bolts from the slider install!

The disappointing part is that the table portion powder coat is chipped on both corners due to the bolts for the rubber stoppers being too long.
And finally the wood slide out has a big wood filler line in it and is not very smooth or pretty.
I think it's a good product for the money and I may just touch-up the table surface and see if there is a way to flip the wood to the other side if it's better? Had I paid $250 I would probably be pissed but I think I can live with the defects

Installed the new Rhino Rack Pioneer platform today. Decided to use the OEM rails, and ditch the crossbars. This thing is incredibly sturdy and the fit and finish are awesome. I also picked up the Maxtrax mounts on an Amazon Warehouse deal and now waiting for the Maxtrax to arrive Friday. I also wanted to keep using my Yakima Skybox so I ordered the RR c-channel crossbars as well, but I need to work on the placement. And yes of course I climbed up and stood on the Pioneer platform today and it didn't budge. Can't wait for the RTT to fit into the budget.

Not today, but a couple days ago I installed my Slimline II Rack. It would have been a nice and easy install but 2 of my mounting brackets (that are in the roof of the GX) had fallen into the headliner when I removed the factory rack. What a nightmare. A trivial task turned into a ~7 hour install.

Overall I am very happy with the rack. It's a LITTLE noisier than I would like, but I should have expected that just by looking at pictures. It's not bad at all with music on, but I am weird and often drive in silence.

What I am REALLY happy with are the Front Runner awning mounts. I have never raved about a product in my life but I must have texted my buddy a dozen times as I installed them. Whoever designed these things deserves a raise. I bought a pack of 3 mounts at my local Expedition Outfitter and kinda scoffed at the price. Once I got to installing though that went away. I am so impressed by them. https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.c...accessories/front-runner-awning-brackets.html

I am kinda waiting to get my wheels/tires mounted before I start posting pictures... SO until then, enjoy the wall of text =) The tires got in today but I don't have time to get them mounted until Thursday =(

Saturday/Sunday I installed my Morimoto HID lows (35w, 4500k), replaced my spark plugs and cleaned the MAF. The plugs looked alright when I pulled them, but I did notice a serious increase in performance and the idle is dead on now. While in there I checked the air filter and it was filthy, so I ordered an AFE Dry filter (love these things on the trail) which I installed this evening. The filter I didn't expect an increase in anything, and didn't notice one either.

My wife cut me off financially until the 4Runner sells... Once it's gone (should be soon) I'll hop into the suspension and finish this build up. Need to figure out which UCAs I want to go with.

That looks great, I love the light bar and how you used the factory rails. I love my pioneer platform, not a lot of people seem to have them on the GX, I am really impressed with mine. How do you like the c-channel cross bars? I need to get a set of those.

Do you plan on reinforcing it from behind the plastic wall? Good luck

Absolutely! My Inital thoughts are to install two flat strips of steel to the metal door panel behind the plastic to give me a nice flat surface to attach to. I pulled the door all apart last weekend to replace my broken handle with some rope so I have some photos to reference and a game plan.

Thank you! The c-channel cross bars are the same high-quality, durable aluminum and finish of the platform and the fit is really precise. I only got them so I could mount my Skybox, but due to the space required to mount the Skybox "below" the box itself I'm finding it difficult to place it where I want it. The spacing of the mounts don't match well to the spacing of the slats of the platform. So I'm going to try and use some T-bolts and see if I can use the c-channel instead of the clamps on the Skybox. Not sure if that will be strong enough but we will see. I may end up selling the Yakima and putting some money into a RR box as they're designed to work on the Pioneer.

GXLee- Looking good! Keep an eye out on craigslist for the roof top tents, I see gently used "we don't have time to use/bought it on impluse" ones for sale all the time.

AWilson- Sad to see your 3rd gen go but looks like you're making some solid progress on the GX

Nice, thanks for the response. I don't have a box yet, if I do get one, I may just get the RR one.

So I did speak a little too soon on the Skybox- it actually fit great once I got the bars in the right spot. It now sits just above the platform. But I think with the RR box that has a "recessed" mounting area, most of the box would sit on the platform and probably provide slightly more stability in an off-road situation. Then again these Yakima boxes are quite stout too so maybe it's 6's.

Nice! I've run AT2s for a number of years. They're a fantastic tire!!! Nearly identical tread pattern to classic BFG but slightly wider lug spacing so better snow/mud shedding. A scosh softer than BFG AT/KOs so quieter, great off road handling on various terrain, very good on road manners and fantastic snow and pretty good wet handling. They're studable snow-rated tires too.
Yeah expo said very good things about them. Very good all around AT tire!!

Just got some new rubber. General Grabber AT 2's. From what I've read, and feedback from the Expidition Overland guys, one of the best AT for the money.

Very clean.
Any wind noise to report?

I'm actually quite content with how little wind noise the platform makes. Of course it's louder than nothing up there, but barely perceptible once the sunroof cover is closed. However, adding the cargo box is another story. The front end forces air down onto the sunroof so it's quite a bit louder but something I'm used to. I found that at very low speeds (5-20mph) there was a low pitch "whistle" from the air being pushed under the box. I cut a piece of angled aluminum and made a rudimentary wind deflector that fits between the platform and the box. Whistle gone. I also mounted up the Maxtrax and will post some pics in the morning. I'm really excited to have these things - they aren't cheap but they sure feel like great quality and they just look so cool!

Nice Mark! Been tempted to order that thing as well, interested to see how it turns out.

Ditto, anxious to see how this turns out.

Transmission fluid flush today thru my local Toyota dealer (Big 2, Chandler Az.) - been on my 'to do' list for a while, just felt it a good idea given 100K miles and wasn't something I could tackle myself. I had zero concerns with the transmission before doing this but this is a whole new level of smoooooooooooth shifting. I'm so glad I did this!! $294 out the door, FYI.

It wasn't done today but done last week.... new radiator, timing belt, water pump, radiator hoses, and serpentine belt. Hopefully I am good to go for a while. The week before replaced the back brakes. If I ever get all the maintenance stuff taken care of I am going to be ordering and installing sliders and tires.
July is fast approaching for my trip out west!
