A 5speed will have 5 forward gears and one reverse gear.
A 5 speed will have an external shift rod out the back of the shift cover, connecting to the shift arm on the 5th gear extension housing.
Date code on the transfer case is formatted:
Y M SSSS
Y= last digit of year (4 is '74, 84, 94...)
M= month (A= Jan, B= Feb....)
SSSS= serial number that month. 0001is the first case that month, 1901 is approx the one thousand ninehundredth case that month.
