With the new fire map overlays Gaia finally got me to pay for the upgrade to premium. The same maps are visible on the internet, but having them on the navigation software could prove useful in the future.

Did you use the club discount?

Hmmm... nope didn't know there was a club discount... Supposedly got 10% off, but it appears to have only applied to the prorated 2 months of my current plan as it was an upgrade from regular membership to premium... They indicate that on 1-November when my premium renews it will be for the full $40...

Well I read the entire thread referenced above but there's no apparent way within my Gaia map or subscription or profile to join the BnT team... There is a "Create A Team" link, but no way to join an existing team that I could find. There's some reference in the thread to an email with an appropriate link.

What would spectacularly cool would be if Gaia and the team function could show you the location of team members along a trail; of course this would require each vehicle to have good internet/cell phone coverage when off road, but it would be so cool.

Yeh that ended up not working as planned. It could for some organizations. They just upgraded their 'fire' layer, which would be pretty important for anyone travelling the west coast these days.

Yep, the new fire layer with the satellite fire detections and current air quality layers is very cool... As we were supposed to be driving to Mono Hot Springs today we've been staring at the online fire maps for a week in hopes that we'd still be able to go. But, nope everything is shut down up there. Mineral King and Yosemite look to have good air quality, but again the forests are closed...

So I tried Gaia today with Apple Carplay in my 2018 Honda CRV and I have to say I was unimpressed. As implemented on Carplay It is by no means a larger view of what's on your phone, it's more of a turn by turn navigation tool. Panning and zooming was also clunky and not very responsive. So, the question is, do I bother upgrading my Alpine LC car stereo head unit to a Carplay compatible model? I'm thinking not. It seems like a new iPad would provide a larger screen for the same amount of money and would work better for the application.

My rigs are all running stock radios so I can’t comment on CarPlay but as I’ve looked at it a little bit, I don’t think I’d use it for off-road navigation. Street travel with Google maps or Waze looks awesome, but for Gaia I’ve just grown accustomed to pulling out my iPad or iPhone wherever I am, home or trail, and marking waypoints, changing tracks/routes, etc. Curious about others experience with CarPlay but for the buck a used/refueled gps enabled iPad is hard to beat.

To be sure, I do like Apple Carplay with Waze and Google maps when highway driving. It does work well, at least in the CRV, for that kind of navigation.

I too did the Gaia Premium upgrade.
Was looking on you tube for the best offload maps to download.
Would be nice to share a list with club members of what they recommend too
