kind of hardcore

96 80 series. The thought crossed my mind. "what if I was to welding in the bottom portion/rung of my springs to the mount in order to prevent them from moving around when at full droop?" you thoughts?....only reason I wont run a 16" travel shock (currently 14") is b/c I'll loose the spring out the pirch. Welding in a lip to hold the spring in place was also a thought but the spring would still be able to twist out of it's proper sitting position.

As always thanks in advance. Shock mount, are NOT stock. They're custom to max on up travel, but a little more downward travel would be nice since I have no more upward room until I cut out the fenders (which isn't happening soon).

Inching towards hardcore, trying real hard...

BAD IDEA! Springs are specially heat treated and welding them will ruin that. Additionally if you ever want to remove them you'll have all sorts of issues.

I would come up with a good retention system, if your springs are spinning that much when they become unseated you have other problems.

Thanks Ary, they are not spinning, but the potential for them to spin if I was to go to a larger shock is there. The removal would be a big bitch come to think of it. I guess back to the original drawing board of a retention system.

I didn't know about the "special heat treated" aspect of springs. appreciate the help

Sam, What about using a coil retainer from the front of an F150? They use a simple bolt-on style clamp at the bottom of the coil mount. I havent paid much attention to an 80 series lower coil mount, but it may work. Just a threaded boss at the bottom is needed to accept the bolt and clamp. Probly pick a couple up at the local wrecking yard for cheap.

I've herd that crazy gule works.

-I will return to under my rock.............End busting of balls now.

Couldn't resist.....

But really they are right, only good way is to clamp it in what ever fashion that works for ya.

Thanks for the help...I'm gonna check out the F150 retainers.

I knew I was due for a smack in the ass, but I was expecting a cute busty blonde named Candy, not you RVB. :flipoff2:

I was reading through this thread and a thought popped into my head. Coming up with a means to retain the lower portion of the spring doesn't seem like too bad an issue but, what about the top of the spring? There isn't a ton of space up there on the 80s to retain the top. If the top and bottom are retained it would be less likely to unload at full droop. Any ideas?
