hi there think of buying a wirefeed so which one hobart 140 or miller 140 has to be 110 volt. have used a miller i like them but i know nothing about hobart. any info would help:cheers:

miller makes hobart...can't go wrong.

i've had my hobart 180 handler (220v) for almost 4 years with no issues.
i've only had to replace the inner coil sleeve that the wire travels thru once.

i use it a lot!!!!

Miller and Hobart are owned by Illinois Tool Works (ITW).

Miller will have all metal drive roll assembly and should be more durable than the Hobart. Good chance they may share some of the same components, but generally they're not the same. Miller is considered their industrial line. Hobart is marketed toward home/hobbyist.

I don't see negatives of buying a Hobart for home use.

The older Hobarts (mustard yellow colored ones) were industrial duty. This was before ITW bought out Hobart.

i like my miller. it seems to do a good job for what i need. my friend has a hobart and it seems nice as well. i use gas and he doesn't so i can't really say which ones better but both would be a good choice. i would just get what you can get a better deal on

I've used both the Miller 140 and the Hobart 140. Both are good machines.

I think it's false economy to buy the Hobart because it does not have an all metal feed mechanism like the Miller. Still, budgets are a reality, and the Hobart would be my second choice anyway. The Millermatic 140 will run in the low to mid $600 range on sale.

I went with the Millermatic 180. Yeah, I had to make an expensive heavy extension cord to run it from the dryer circuit, but I think the extra power and flexibility of the 230v machine is worth it.

BTW, I did a write up on the Millermatic 180 Auto Set in this thread:

I have used the absolute piss out of a Hobart 140 for around 3 years with no problems at all. For the price they are unbeatable, and I have heard nothing but good about there customer service.

Check the duty cycle. I was looking at the Hobart 210 Ironman and the duty cycle was 40%. I ended up saving a couple bucks and bought a slightly used Millermatic 210 for about $450 less.

I have had a lincoln 135 and a harbor freight 220 volt. A couple of weeks ago at the Easter Jeep Safari I "test drove" a Miller 180 Autoset at the Praxair booth. In a word....butta.... I bought one and it is incredible.
