Weird Wiring Issue

Rig: 1989 Fj62

Has anyone ever had their heater and fan come on when the rear hatch is open and the cargo dome light is turned on? Mine does this and it makes me a little nervous about whats going on with the wiring.

Can you provide more info on this 62?
--when you say the heater fan comes on, is that the at the dash or the rear heater, or both?

I wonder if somehow a PO spliced the hatch switch wiring and dome switch wiring into the heater wiring at the fuse box?

Sounds like your rear ground is bad. Hunt down the ground from the rear dome light. Has anything been added to the rear wiring harness?

Beware, the wiring in the FJ-62 sucks, I know mine did.

I think floating ground it the term I've heard used. I have a touch of that with my truck. Hatch light comes on, and the indicator light for the rear defroster lights up. Adds character.
