I've had my yellow Optima battery installed for over a month now and I've been getting this weird idling problem. Both the battery gauge and my rpms surge slightly when I'm at a stop. At first I thought it was my alternator, but that checked out find. Could it my my Optima is surging. Has anybody had this happend to them.

Probably the normal cycle of ECM relearning.

You think, I had the battery on for a month. At first it was just the battery gauge, now a month later you can hear the idle.

Well, then no, it's not normal. I didn't see the month mentioned in your original post :). Voltage regulator?

If you have another battery lying around (maybe your old one if it isn't dead), try dropping it in to see if the battery is really the source of the problem.

All connections are tight eh? I had a loose military style clamp once and the inertia of the vehicle at starts stops would sometimes do mysterious things. I actually thought I was locked in the 80 in the middle of the winter once ... for about five minutes before it occurred to me the doors had a 'manual' override .. . The clamp had finally jumped off the post and was just sitting on top without enough juice to open the electric door locks. Look in the 80scool archives under 'gremlins' for the full retarded story .. :D

TY

All connections are tight. Only thing I can think of is that I've added to many things to the military terminals or I didn't crimp the battery cable on hard enough. On the miltary terminal for the positive side I have the fusible link wires on one side of the terminal and the battery cable on the other. Would that make a diffrence?

Take her out back and shoot her Victor. hehehe :crybaby: Can I have your front bumper and sliders first tho? :D

Mine had done that and I think it was an extremely dirty EGR valve (I think??). My memory and knowledge of those little thingys isn't the best being a 1/2  mechanic. Happened right after the head gasket replacement and dealer said it could have been jostled/knocked around just enough to cause the problem. They threw in the valve for $0, msrp around $60, again I think.

Thanks Brent, was thinking about the EGR valve but it looks to be clean. This problem didn't start until I installed the yellow top and replaced the positive OEM battery cable terminal with a military style.
