Weird Clutch/High Idle Speed

Hi folks,

Anyone having a problem with their clutch feeling like it doesn't have much meat left? My rig is a 2007 FJC obviously 6 spd. I've been driving for 54 yrs. Everything from 2 wheels to 18 and tracks, etc. 2 spd trans to 13 spd road rangers in 18 wheelers. I am having a hard time getting use to the clutch on this thing. only 2500 miles on it and not slipping but just weird to operate. Also the idle spd is never under about 750 or 800 and usually above 1000 to 1200. I think that makes for wierd clutch releases in the city traffic.

Any help?

do you have air/defrost on this will bump up the idle

Yeah probably, Tomorrow I will shut everything off and see what happens.

Hi Guys- I'm new to the FJC scene and about two months into the Fj40 (so... new there too) I'm lovin' it.

Anyway- my FJC is doing the same- high idle as well as when I push in the clutch the rpm's shoot up a bit before lowering (yes I am letting off the gas before engaging the clutch) Seems weird- is this normal? there are 178 miles on it currently... No AC or vents on during this.

Thanks man- took it myself. Got married there in Sept. Wife and I own a timeshare in S. Tahoe- perhaps my favorite spot in the US- so far...

Yep same thing, high idle however, it does seem to show it more after the RPM's go above 4000 when accelerating, later after a slight stop it goes back to normal; probably VVT related!
