I bought a M116-A2 a few years ago. We use it a lot for hauling and camping. A while back I noticed that the chassis is built to be dump capable.

Thinking about that for a while I recently got the urge to see what kind of dump mechanism I could come up with on the cheap. The local chinese tool store came through for me with a air-hydraulic jack to go into a cherry picker. Some scrap metal and bolts from the hardware store round it out. The whole project cost me a weekend and about $100.

The A2 configuration wasn't set up for dumping. That meant I had to fiddle with harness routing and surge brake plumbling, but it wasn't a big deal.

good job................

It's not meant to be dump capable or a dump trailer at all. It's constructed that way so the draw bar can be disconnected underneath the trailer and pivot down, which causes the tongue to fold up against the front of the trailer in order to make for a more compact shipping foot print. If you still have your original data plate what I'm talking about is probably depicted on it. The wiring and what-not would not have needed to be rerouted in order to do this.

With all that said, if what' you've done works for you that's great. I'm just pointing out the misconception about these trailers being designed as dumpers. They aren't.

Ha Ha! Oops. Yeah, it totally works. It pivots quite nicely.
