Kevin,
I installed the cargo hatch weatherstripping a couple of years ago and noticed yesterday that it's starting to come apart in a few places. Is this common, and if so any recommendations on glue or something to fix it? Here's what I'm talking about:

Huh. That sucks.
I don't know what would work to glue them back together, I'll check with the manufacturer and see if they have any recommendations. I would think it would be tough to get the surfaces clean enough to re-bond.
Let me know if you just need me to send you a new piece

Anyone else have this problem?

Mine has been installed the longest and it seems fine still, if there are more failures out there like this I will stop selling the seals.

Yeah that's what I was thinking about getting it clean. Don't stop selling the seals! It's only that one on the rear, it's coming apart at two places. I have them on the doors too and they are just fine and were installed the same day. Not sure what happened here, maybe just a bad batch or something.
I'll probably get a new one at some point but it'll probably be a while as I'm working on de-rusting and sound deadening the interior

So I called and asked about recommended glues for a fix like this, and they actually sell an adhesive for it, however.......

it's $30.69 for a 1.2 OZ bottle.
And it just looks a whole lot like a bottle of super glue......

Even says it glues:

"rubber, plastic, fiberglass, metal, wood, paper, leather, and foam. It cures in 0-.25 seconds "

Hummm....
Kinda wish they didn't sell it so I could actually get a "recommendation". :p

I've got various super glues and epoxies in the garage, I'll give one of those a shot. If that doesn't hold I'll order a new one I reckon.

I had the same problem and found the 3M glue to work well. I found it at the local auto parts store. 3M product code is 08001 "Weatherstrip and gasket adhesive". Down side is that it dries yellow. I used a black shapie marker to make it less visible, but if there were a black version, that would be best.

Hey Aaron, I can send you another strip if yours looks too nasty.
And thanks for bumping this thread, made me realize I can add some more info.

This does not come up very much and it's only happened with pieces of the hatch perimeter seal and what I have found is that it's only delaminating when the latches are adjusted with too much tension, in some cases they are adjusted to hold the doors so tight that they destroy the bond, it's fine to leave a little bit of room for the seal to work, a tough balance though to get them to sit flush, still engage both stages of the two stage latch and not be crushing the seal too much.

To test this I ran a strip on my truck that was the same thing but with the next size up bulb so that it was uniformly thicker all around, it delaminated in a number of places where there was too much pressure.
