At times, it sits on the first mark. Sometimes it seems to work right. Is this behavior common?

And the common cure is... the sender? Yes?
Honestly not sure, just know that Toyota oil sensors have sucked on lots of their vehicles. My 80 was the same way and lots of tundra and Sequoia owners have this issue
