@Markuson All good points and there are always arguments for or against heavier. To me it’s primarily a weight and rigging equation for me. I like the lighter weight of the XPS (68lbs) vs. the M12000 with synthetic line (99lbs) and the higher line pull speed of the 9.5XPS (max weight / wrap pull of 6.2 vs. 3.9 feet per minute) which is almost 2x as fast as the M12000S. I have no issue pulling line and rigging up a couple recovery rings to make the pull easier and avoid undue stress on the winch (and vehicle)...often times I find that helps make the entire situation go smoothly...whereas a lot of folks will must do a straight line pull (because their winch can handle it) even though that may not be the best solution. Then again I’m the recovery dork that has a small white board where I draw out my recovery and do a safety brief - even when alone!

Agree with all of that. No debate about the benefits of using snatch blocks for less strain and more force. Also great that snatch blocks always mean pulling more line out so the smaller spool works almost like it’s own low gear. I wonder how many people realize that the max pull numbers listed rely on fewer winds to really get to max advertised pull weights... :)

Just for weight comparison...my 12-S Zeon Platinum is only 83# with 80 feet of synthetic line.
-With steel cables, that would jump 21#to 104...! Super happy with the synthetic after 4 years.

On speed, a nice extra on the Platinumis a very fast wind when not under heavy load... so that makes it less annoying to reel in a lot of line when pulled out to fewer spool wraps, snatch block, etc.

Frankly, for me—the most frequent winch pulls are waaay lower than full pull power needs. Folks often get stuck and just need a wee bit of help. Last winter, a long succession of folks needs pulls from a slippery snow shoulder where a strap recovery would have been dangerous. For me, it’s an example of where speed and repeated use was effortless.

But anyway... All good stuff.

I did grab the winch 700 bucks , I beat the seller up for a extra 100 less , the winch was brand new but must be a few years older but still a 5 wire controller with steel wire but had a cast iron hawse for some reason . All brand new still in the original box .
I think 700 was a good price for that brand new 9.5 xp .
I'm going to do the upgrade kit which moves the control box to the middle and plug to the side for the TJM should work fine can plug control in threw the front hole or use the wireless plug in fob .
Next question swapping to the rope what is the recommend synthetic rope to run ?

pick a vendor, and look for Amsteel blue 3/8"
