Wrapped up - just need some 10-24 screws from the store then I can hang it and mount solenoid assy. That was a fun little project.

An 8274 restoration project for a customer. We do these every month and they vary a bit. This one got some serious upgrades, including upgraded brake shaft, 6hp Warn motor, re-zinc plated brake parts with new internals, Albright contactor but hidden in classic new box cover, real USA made Dyneema SK-78 rope and lots of deep cleaning, new parts, etc.

what do you guys actually call that winch hook holder dongle thing?
winchy or hooker? :flipoff2:
I just call it a spring, but I’m only a redneck from North Carolina with an Australian license plate. Aussies probably call it something else.

There’s got to be a better way 🤣

Morning gents… stumbled onto this thread researching synthetic rope options, I’ve been running the inherited wire since I scored my winch locally in 2011. Really looking for feedback on diameter (rating) and length when I go syn

Obligatory photo from my archives…

The 5/16 synthetic rope is rated higher than the original 5/16 cable that comes on the winch. However, it's typically recommended that you upgrade to 3/8 synthetic for a higher safety margin and better spooling on the drum. How much you put on is up to you based on your typical length of pull use.

I live in the desert where there are almost no trees to pull from so I prefer a lot of rope. Others that also prefer to have more rope but have less on the drum, carry extensions. That's probably what I may end up doing. I have 100 feet of 3/8 synthetic on mine now.
