Hey guys. I am looking for some help. I have a large stump at the end of my driveway I am wanting removed to make way for more parking. Tree was uprooted in a storm and tree cutters pushed stump back in the hole.

Looking for someone that has or has access to a backhoe, dozer, tow truck etc... That could pull it out and drag it in the woods behind the house. Tried a small bobcat, it wouldn't do the trick.

Winching has been suggested, but don't think it would be effective.

I live in Winston Salem and will compensate you for your time, fuel, need of beer, etc.

Let me know what you got!
Thanks guys!

If the stump was already pulled out of the ground, then at least half of the roots are already broken.

Why not winch it up to where it was pulled to during the storm, then cut the rest of the roots with an axe or chainsaw?

I'm willing to try anything.

Agree with Johnny. Your wife's car should be able to pull the stump over, the way it was when the tree guys cut it. Use your chainsaw to cut the remaining roots, but use a water hose to hose off roots to see which ones are still attached. BTW, what kind of tree?

If I were closer I'd come do it for you and take the stump. It should be pretty easy. I would first knock it over the way it was and cut the taproot and any other roots you can see from the underside. Set it upright and just dig back the dirt around the remaining side, hose it down and cut with a chainsaw.

That's exactly what I'd do as well. I would think that a stump grinder would pull that stump out of the hole before it chewed it up.

Now, what do you do with the stump after it's been pulled out?

A walnut stump is what I'm after. I do a little woodworking and I would mill it to 3" slabs and air dry it for gun stocks. Hickory and Cherry may have other uses if it has good burls in the stump, if not, it'll feed my smoker...always a good thing.

I pulled this one in Dec. It burl looks very good, but not great. I'm using the small pieces for kitchen knife handles. The 3 on the left are walnut, top right is spalted pecan, bottom right is hickory with a tiny amount of spalting.

I envy you!! I wish I had space to put together a woodshop!! Put some pics up of the finished product.

I would gladly, eagerly, trade some of my woodworking skills for your diesel knowledge and swap ability.

Such an unfair world this is, I don't have the space, time, and money for a separate garage dedicated to an auto shop and welding. You know the type, a stand alone building just far enough from the house, beer fridge, place all the boys hang out and talk smack, etc. Why does my job and lack of funds always get in the way of what I want to do, my first world problem.

Now that we've totally derailed this thread, I could use a couple of custom long gun stocks :) We'll have to talk more about that.

@WHG423 , if you need help with the stump, I could make it out there one day on the weekend for a couple of hours.

I'll come for the beer and did someone say BBQ? :)

If it fails I'm looking for a good old boy bobcat operator for ya. Just have to find his card here somewhere

Beers, BBQ, and stump pulling Saturday if anyone is interested!

Thread jacking is ok!

Tried the Cruiser when I got home. It was a nogo.

Well now it's just teasing us. That means I have no choice but to come and latch on.

Saturday may already be booked depending on weather but if not Saturday then Sunday should work.

Pm me a cell number and I'll start a group conversation with you, @jfz80, and anyone else that would like to be a part of the festivities.

Lol. Yeah, next weekend might work better on my end anyways. We can discuss the finer points Tuesday night for those who show.
