As I continue to dig myself out of the Christmas blizzards I need a tough snow shovel. I had such a shovel as a kid shoveling my parents drive.

All steel. Approximately 12" square head welded to a steel tube handle and steel D-handle. The model I used was painted construction orange and had traction grips punched through the back of the scoop so that theoretically you could drive you car onto the shovel and out of your stuck. Cold on the hands but great for ice and compacted snow. The head was at a great angle that just popped the ice free from the concrete and asphalt.

Where can I find a shovel like that?

My poly shovels are worthless for this stuff. My ergo handled one has way to much give and is only good for light powder. That is all I see at the stores.

i use a steel bladed shovel thats about 1.5' wide, even has a handle.

true value hardware ;)

I have something like this in the truck that I quite like:

It's a very good and well made all around shovel that is small enough to keep in the truck all the time (mine is in front of my cargo drawer but behind my cargo barrier). It is short, so it is very helpful when digging under the truck, but as you can see, it's not designed to move a lot of light snow, more the hard, icy stuff as well as mud, etc.

Cheers, Hugh
