I have noticed that my body style has black inserts for the grill. I wanted to upgrade to the new chrome one. Anyone done this? is it direct replacement?

It looks like the mounting bracket hardware part numbers are the same... However, I've never done this. I suspect the newer style will fit.

I've seen people say that it won't fit, i just have no idea how... They look identical.

It will not fit unless you also change out the three valence pieces as well. If you look closely you'll notice that on the '03 and up models, those pieces changed slightly to accommodate the larger grills.

Just talked about the Land Cruiser Swap not LX. Those grills look awfully close in dimensions.

What valances are you talking about? in the bumper?
I checked the part numbers for a 2006 and a 2001, which have different grills. The valances are all listed with the same part numbers; 52501, 52513, and 52512.
I'm thinking the grills might be interchangeable.

I have no idea why they wouldn't. With that being said, i have read posts of people that have done it and not worked. Don't really know why. Hopefully someone will chime in

The grills do look like they are the same size but I assure you the are not. The newer grill is slightly larger on the bottom and will not fit properly with the older valences.

or if you buy the lower valance? that piece unpainted would be cheap i feel like
While on this topic, can anyone confirm that a grille from a 2003 Land Cruiser will fit on a 2002 Cruiser without any modification? I read something about a valance needing to be swapped out but I think that was for an LX470. I'd like to give my 2002 LC a facelift but only if it doesn't require major cosmetic surgery lol!
Bumping this thread back to the top. Still looking for confirmation that a grille from a newer 2003+ LC will fit a 2002 without any modification. From the looks of it, it seems to work but just wanted to know for sure from someone who's been there or done that.

Just as an FYI, the grill of the LX470 is integrated into the hood and is much different than the Land Cruiser. The update package listed on that page will not work for LX470.
(That's why I quoted the question in this thread that was asking about updating his 02 Land Cruiser with an 03 Land Cruiser grill)
