they are at it again apparently, trying to close down Pismo....

as good an excuse as any to go have some fun there (before it's too late?)

anybody wanna go soon? as in the next few weeks. A day or 2 if you'd like to camp on the beach (great fun as you can imagine)

I could go pretty much any time (and I will). Always enjoy good company.

let me know

When? Any days picked out yet?

I'm game for a weekday, later this week or better next week

There has always been a safety issue with the drunken yahoos and all, the recent controversy is over shorebird nesting and idiots disrupting their habitat, antagonizing the birds, etc.

Here is a brief discussion about what is going on:

I'm assuming the chances of Pismo being shut down and SnT '09 being pooched are low?

never know, but I certainly hope that is the case. They've been trying to shut the place down for years so hopefully it'll be a while longer.

it's looking more and more like I'll be there between Monday and Thursday this coming week.

OK, will get there Monday mid day.
Likely will stay until Thursday.
If you're around look for an 80 and a tent trailer. Probably towards the end of the beach.
Will take it easy.... aaaaaahhhhh..... :)

Hope the shore bird(s) involved isn't the Western Snowy Plover. It's on the ESL and with that hanging overhead the pressure to close it great. There's always someone who will run one over on camera and help shut the whole thing down.
Up here, Clam Beach has the plover and the pressure to close is extreme.
Good luck and hope to make it for the first time in November.

back

yes, plover and a tern too

they said there is something like 50 terns and 100 plovers nesting right now.

every morning there were something like 5 ranger trucks parked near where I was, watching the birds. I talked to a gal and asked about the counting/watching job, she said it was their "most important" job right now.

Their closing state parks, and then they have 5 rangers watching birds?
