Hello fellow cruiser heads, I have a question about swap laws in WA state that you guys may be able to help me with.

I have a 92 80 series and will be moving to WA later in the year to work in Seattle. Not sure where I will end up living as I will be staying with family for a bit before getting a place of my own. But the most likely candidates are King, Pierce and Snohomish.

I am most likely going to be doing a TBI 350 swap either using an adapter to the stock trans or swapping in a manual GM trans and then adapting it to a split case.

I've googled quite a few threads from car sites but many seem to hold conflicting information on the subject.

Most likely my swap will be a gas engine and maybe a diesel years down the line.

Can someone give me the current smog and swap laws for the state?

Thanks

Al

Haven't looked specifically, I know Washington is less restrictive than Colorado or California, don't want to pass on bad info, but I thought there was a rolling 20 rule?? At least my 66 an 71 didn't have to do any e testing or inspections. The 71 has a motor swap.

I've used www.dol.wa.gov for other questions and they actually had some good info for a gov website.
Good luck in your search.

I live in an area where inspections/emissions are not required. I am pretty sure that if it is a pre OBDII vehicle all they do run it under a load on the rollers and exhaust gas analyzer and if it falls under the limits, no check engine light and passes the gas cap pressure test you should be all good. The inspections are every other year up to 25 years old. LINK
there is also a link on that page that calls out all the zip codes that emissions are required. No visual inspections like other states.

I am asking from the WA state engine swap king. Tor at Torfab in Mukilteo. He does tons of diesel swaps as well as small blocks. I bet he knows the WA state laws backwards and forwards.

You might check out the Seattle Cruiser Heads... Great group of Land Cruiser junkies.

Edit: From Tor: It will have to pass emissions, if it’s an LS engine then he won’t have any problems. Emissions can be passed with any engine, just needs to be tuned right. There’s no visual inspection of cats or engine type.

Nobody uses the website much anymore. Except for the meeting calendar. We switched to the Google group.
