Now that my vision is attuned to modded 80's I've noticed a couple around with what would appear to be a 2-3" lift and 285s. Just curious if any of you are on here. If you see my Jeep, give a wave :)

I grew up there, but moved away in 1981. I don't remember much 4 wheeling there but I did get my VW stuck in the sand at Fort Story when I was in highschool. I blew the engine in that same VW a little further south in Sandbridge. I still remember that as a bad day and it's been 25 years! Your jeep looks nicely built-where do you get to 4-wheel?

I've lived here for 8 years and the only 'wheelin I've done here was illegal and also at Ft Story LOL. I was a senior in HS and my Jeep was stock. This was pre-9/11 so getting on base was no problem so we went rootin around in the back of the base, passing all sorts of bunkers and such.

I go to Virginia Tech(took a year off to make some money, going back in Jan) and do most of my 'wheelin on the western side of the state. I also travel to Uwharrie and Tellico at least once a year.

Saw an 80-series lexus last night(dunno if those were 450s or 470s, haven't learned about them yet) on what looked like 3" and 33s and it had a slee-offroad sticker in the window. I've also talked to a guy with a blue(90% sure it was blue) 80 that was very built and he said it used to belong to Christo of slee-offroad.

So there are a few around. Just thought I'd see if there was a large group around here or just a few random ones. Be nice to find a group of cruiserheads that could help me with our family's 80 from time to time :)

Hey Arya,

Is this 80 series in the Va Beach/Chesapeake neighborhood? If so, I would like to know who owns this 80 so I can get some info about the lift. That would be nice just to talk to them about lift and mod on this iron pig.

there are a bunch of Virginia peps in the BBRC club

Bay to Blue Ridge Cruisers Home page

they have a mailing list as well. There are people all over the Virginia area :D

There is also a great landcruiser shop in Fredericksburg VA. Lance is a great guy and would be more than willing to chat you up on your cruiser!

There are some great guys in that BBRC club as Klunky mentions.

I will say, hands down, with the exception of fj60.com there are NO shops in VA that will ever see any of my money! No affiliation with Glenn at fj60.com other than wheeling with him one day during CMCC.

Never heard of fj60.com, but I'll agree with you that there are very few competent shops in the area. So far there are no shops in MD, DC, or VA that will earn my business and only a couple that come to mind in NC and only for certain things. At this point I've done 5 different lifts on my Jeep(I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure ;) ), two axle swaps, rebuilt 3 t-cases(mine and two others), and built my own long arm front suspension from a myriad of products and components on the market. I haven't had a need for a shop yet, except to do gear setups and I had a local guy do them that came highly recommended who works out of his garage in the evenings.

4X4CPOSEADOG, I saw the Lexus 80-series at the intersection of First Colonial Road and Laskin Road in the Hilltop area of Virginia Beach headed towards the oceanfront. He passed me and I got caught at a red light so I didn't get a chance to catch up and examine the rig in-depth. There's also an 80-series Toyota that lives off of First Colonial near Virginia Beach General Hospital. I've seen it parked outside his house and it looks to have the OME suspension and 285s as well.

This Virginia business does not sound good. I'm moving there in five weeks, luckily I do all my own work. I aslo restore 60 series, but I think I may stop that and get a real job when I get down there? What can you get a 60 for down there on average, one that needs work as I like a bargain?
Maybe I'll see some of you soon?

ERICH, I'm not up on 60 pricing in this area, but I noticed you're afrom Portsmouth NH. Do you happen to know RJ Clayton, used to have a red XJ, then a maroon 62, now a blue(I think) Range Rover? Just curious as he used to live there but recently moved across the river to Maine about a year go now I guess.

Ary

Yeah
RJ and I have meet a few times, seems like a really nice guy, we know people in common. I've done a fair amount of work for a friend of his on a few different Cruisers. Where abouts in Va do you live, I'm moving to Staunton November 15. If you were to buy a mid 70's FJ40 down there how much of an issue would rust be there?
Take care.

I'm not in Va Beach, but just up the road in Poquoson. The "Local" cruiser shop is in Fredricksburgh, "iron-pig offroad" is worth a close look. He is starting to get into FJ80's. I'm not affiliated, just know about the shop. There are a few cruisers in the area. Just ran into a uy doing a FJ45lv resto the other day, and there are a couple other random 40's I have seen.
