I took my 07 with 137k miles into a shop recently. I wanted to have the car inspected to see if they could locate a harmonic vibration/drone noise that I have been hearing since I bought it 6 months ago. The noise is most prominent in driver's seat. I could audibly hear, and feel the vibration in my left foot while on the floor board. The noise was present only while pressing the gas over 65mph (sometimes heard at lower speeds). I also wanted them to locate a clunking noise while backing up or going forward at very low speeds. Long story short the shop had the car for 3 days and drove it for 56 miles. The show owner said he could hear the drone noise but could not locate it. He had the car on a lift, wheels off the ground, up to 45mph, and with a stethoscope to the front, center, rear diff, trans case, and transmission, could not locate a noise. He said there was an slight noise coming from diff, but ruled it out as the culprit. The clunking noise (I figured would be bad BJs, bushings, ect) he could not locate either.
Here's the strange part. When I get the car back, the droning noise is gone. The zerks have recently been greased, so maybe while the vehicle was suspended and under load that grease was able to lubricate something in the drive line that was creating the vibration? Sorry for long winded post. Any thoughts on this?
