Not sure what is my door chime is indicating: Sometimes it chimes, sometimes it doesn't. It's a repetitive chime similar to leaving lights on or something. It happens when I am parking and I shut off my 2019 LC. Headlights are always set to Auto, all windows/sunroof are closed, parking brake is set and vehicle is in park: sometimes I get the chime, sometimes I don't. I can't figure out what I am missing and what the pattern is, other than my foot may be on the brake pedal. I don't notice any display on the instruments.

2019 with smart key.

**********Mystery solved! ****************
I must have been mistaken as to when the chime occurred.

Ok, just read in my Tundra manual, it states: if the engine is turned off with the door open you will get the chime until the door is shut. And I frequently open the door before I push the off button explaining the chime. There are so many chimes warning operators, it would be nice if they had dedicated sounds for different events and that you could deselect certain warnings.

I see that many of you responded with this answer. I didn't get to those responses until today. Thanks NLScooby, Markuson, Steve Berman

Sometimes I feel like I have no idea what it is trying to tell me.

If you open your door before turning off the car - you'll get the chime. I'm not sure what its trying to tell you though....other than "Hey - you opened your door before turning off the car, man."

If you shut the car off with the moonroof open you'll also get some chimes - but at least then you'll get a notice on the dash telling you that you left your moonroof open....

It’s telling you the door is not closed.

What to do:
If you want your door to stay open and the chime to stop...just push the rubber plunger button the door hits when you do close your door. It will stop the chime immediately, and your door can stay open.

If I open the door with it running it chimes but shouldn't it stop when the engine is shut off? Seems like I shut it off with my foot on the brake and the door open it chimes and continues to chime until I lock it. I will pay more attention on the next few shut downs. Vexing still.

The reason it chimes after shutoff is very straight forward—.....It is assuming you accidentally failed to close the door & so it’s trying to alert you to this before you walk away with it open.

So as above...poke the rubber door plunger/button near the latch bar in the open door frame with your finger (on the right side as you look at your open driver door) ...and chimes will stop.

There is something inconsistent here, I'm noticing it too.

I.e. If you get out and hear the chime, leave your door open, walk to the rear, open the hatch and then shut it. This will stop the chime while the driver side door is still open.

I'm going to try opening and reclosing all my doors to see if that stops it. This is definately inconsistent behaviour, as it has only started doing this for me.

@OP did you replace your fob battery recently? I doubt it's related but I did replace my fob battery, just checking.

I just managed to stop this beeping behavior. I can give detailed instructinos on what I did.. but I think it was basically that another door in the car needed to be slammed shut, or the sunroof needed to be opened and reclosed.

Try those things and report back.. otherwise I'll give the complete list of steps

No slamming needed. All you are doing is...poking the plunger on a door as I described earlier. Makes no difference if you do this by pressing the plunger manually in your open driver door...or if you slam/close another door...or poke another door’s plunger without closing it. Whether slamming...or simply poking the plunger...the truck registers it the same way, and the chime will stop.

Try it.

Exit driver... leave door open, but press the black, rubber bottom/plunger near the latch bar in the door sill. Chimes stop.

Hey Marksun, this is a little different. After slamming (shutting doors that were not completely shut in an obvious way), I no longer get the beep when exiting the vehicle. Before this, sure I could exit and press the spring on the door and it would stop, but starting the car and shutting the door, stopping the car and exiting would recreate the annoying chime.

Now when I stop the car snd exit after the car is running, there is no beep. It is happening when I believe part of the hatch, sunroof or another door isnt shut completely. Whatever the case, opening them all (inc hatch top and bottom, slamming them all, made the chine go away for me.

I guess it has something to do w/ opening the door before you turn off the car. If you stop the car before you open the door = no beep. if you open your door 1 second before you turn off the car = infinite beeps until you shut the door. :x

maybe i will be blessed with new behavior tomorrow :)

:meh: All I know is...yours definitely does not behave the way mine does.

On mine, it doesn’t matter which comes first re stopping the engine. I open the door...and until I press the plunger (or press the plunger by actually closing the door...) it will beep until I do.

PS... To be sure we’re talking about the same button...see photo in next post.

Didn’t replace the fob. Truck was new last December

Markuson, I did depress that button and it silences it. I’m confused as to why sometimes it chimes and sometimes it doesn’t. I can’t detect a pattern. Always shut it off in park, brake set, sometimes door is open sometimes not and sometimes I have my foot on the brakes and sometimes not. I guess I’ll have to go through all the scenarios and gather some empirical data.

Do this:

1. Turn engine off as normal.
2. Get out (you’ll hear the chime once your driver door is open.
3. Leave door open
4. Press this button

4. Report back whether the chime stops.

Ah!
I thought you were simply trying to make the chime stop...so my answer was how to quickly make it stop.

But I see now that what you really want is to determine what the quirky variable is that does...or does not...trigger it. My s AS policies for missing the subtlety. Chime annoyance in general comes up often here...

So now that that’s clarified(!)...
...Here’s an odd observation that is related...

Next time it’s chiming...and you go to press the plunger to stop it... if listening, you will hear (or at least I ALWAYS HEAR) an audible, mechanical/motor sound that comes from somewhere near the driver-side dash or steering assembly. Next time you stop the chime with the plunger, listen for it. It lasts about 1/2 second and sounds like a small electric motor operating some small device, door or lever. No steering wheel, seat or other motion. Just the sound...that I only ever hear when stopping the chime. So...whatever is activating the chime...also does something that must be adjusted somehow when the door is finally closed.

No real logical connection there...and correlation is not the same as causation of course...but the two (chime-stopping plunger & the mechanical sound) always accompany each other. Weird, aye? :)

Now we are getting somewhere.

@TacomaLC, with the ignition on and doors shut, turn the ignition off, then open the door.
Do you get the chime? If yes, closing and re-opening **ANY** door will make it stop. Thus, if you are riding with others, and you get out first, and then others get out, that could explain the inconsistency.

@Markson, On mine, the door chime only happens if I open the door while the ignition is on - and then turn the ignition off. I believe I have used Carista to make this happen. It may be worth a look because the door chime sucks
