VCS OFF light on WHY?

Glenn does not get on here much since he does not work weekends and is staying busy. I would give him a call or also reach out to Rick C. as he has been through a lot in his FJC with the VSC and front end.

Yeah, mud is bad.....light mud is one thing but that other stuff is bad juju.

Good luck Pat....hope you get it worked out and are out with us again. You need to do Uwharrie with us and stay away from mud. Durhamtown is definitely an area that requires no rain in 20 days prior to arrival it appears. :(

I definitely don't want to stop wheelin' I just don't want these lights on anymore. I get her fixed.

You'll need to have someone with the Toyota Tech Stream scantool(LAPTOP) the retrieve VSC/ABS codes from the FJC. Autozone, Peps boys and so on do not have the capability to retrieve ABS/VSC Codes. Did the Toyota dealer happen to document the malfunction codes on a repair order that you could post?

The first time I took her in last week the tech put the following "C/S THE VSC, TRAC OFF LIGHTS ARE ON. FOUND THE 4 WHEEL SWITCH HAD NO POWER COMING OUT OF IT ORDERED SWITCH"

The second round the tech put down "VSC, TRAC LIGHT ORDERED 4 WHEEL DRIVE SWITCH. R&R 4 WHEEL TRANSFER SWITCH. TEST DROVE FOUND VSC LIGHT OFF IS STILL ON. FOUND ECU IS NOT WORKING."

The third time the shop tried to fix the tech wrote "TRAC OFF LIGHT AND VSC LIGHT ARE ON. SCANNED WITH HHT. CODE AP1258. USING FLOW CHART FOR CODE: GROUND SIDE OFF. VSC ECU CONNECTOR IS SHOWING READING OUT OF SPECKS. TOO MUCH RESIST IN 2 HIGH. 4 WHEEL LOW & 4 WHEEL HIGH RANGE. CHECKING POWER SIDE OF VSC CONNECTOR. VEH HAS TOO MUCH VOLTAGE TO HIGH IN AT ANY SPEED. REMOVED ALL AFTER MARKET EQUIPMENT AS FAR AS POWER AND GROUND WITHOUT REMOVING THE ACTUAL WIRING. READING IS STILL OUT OF SPECKS, BUT NOW THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON AS WELL AS THE VSC LIGHT. CHECKING ALL VOLTAGE TO THE FLOW CHART THE BEST WE CAN TELL AT THIS TIME IS TO REPLACE TWO WIRING HARNESS. ONE OF THE HARNESSES HAVE BEEN MODIFIED FOR AFTER MARKET ACCESSORIES."

I don't know what harness has been modified, unless he is talking about the A-TRAC and Rear locker hack I did where I removed a pin and connected it to a constant hot to make the computer think the A-TRAC was off so the rear locker and A-TRAC would work at the same time. I have since removed that and put the harness back together the way toyota made it. I still have the VSC OFF the VSC TRAC and the car with swiggles below lights on.

Code C1258 is related to the Transfer 4WD Position Switch Circuit. Sounds like they were chasing their tails and were just replacing parts.
When your ready, I'll check it out for you, but your going to have to leave it with me. I will ask you to commit to at least 2hrs labor for check out.

As far as modifying or altering the A-TRAC harness and trying to trick the ECU. I highly recommend NOT TO DO THIS, no matter what others on these forums have done and had success with.

...exactly why I have not done the ATrac "hack"...I've posted up earlier in this thread all I have experienced with dash lights. I had a bad ABS sensor once and it lit up the dash lights - and I think the ABS system, in conjunction with the 4WD ECU, is designed to light up all the lights if something is bad. If you had just one light on constantly, it would be something else.

I have not felt the need to have my rear locker and A-trac working simultaneously for the terrain we typically travel here on the east coast. I think more aggressive tires are a better way to achieve the traction control you want.

I'd love to leave it with you, but living in Beaufort makes it tough. If my boss signs off on my leave I may be able to get it up there between the 7-10 June. Does that sound feasible?

You are right. Instead of spending the dough on tires I have ended up wasting it on stupid repair.
It is funny I have given my self tattoos, burns, piercings and now my wallet is getting its dose of self inflicted pain.
