Doing some gasket replacement and misc. clean up in the engine bay and was wondering what people are using for paint on their valve covers, metal AC/PS brackets, etc.. I really like the Rustoleum hammered finishes but not too sure on their chemical and heat resistant properties..
Caliper paint?
Engine paint? (No time for curing, needs to dry fast)
Wheel paint?
Thanks!

I have tried a LOT of paints over the years and by far the best I've found is duplicolor wheel paint...

Wheel Coating - Aerosol | Dupli-Color

Just seems to work so much better than other aerosol based paints.

Absolutely critical you clean AND use wax and grease remover first (don't touch the surface after using wax and grease remover). Make sure it's relatively warm 15+ degrees Celsius / 59 degrees retard, not excessive humidity and go light on the first coat. You should be able to get a good durable finish...

Otherwise there are some great 2 part paints but it's a hassle setting up a spray gun for a small job.

Cheers

Anything that is going to be directly attached to the engine should probably have engine paint on it. The Valve Cover especially should be done with engine paint as most others are not made to handle the high-heat of the engine.

Get it polished. Paint will eventually chip off and look cruddy. Paint doesn't stick to aluminum for long. Also paint insulates it. A good polish job is good for a few years unless you're near the beach.

How does the wheel paint hold up to engine temps? Also, would a clear over it be needed?

After I had my cover hot dipped, I used VHT sp127 then some VHT gloss clear.

I cured it by putting it under the hood of my other car after a long day of driving . I had enough room to lay it across the engine bay close to but not touching the headers and closed the hood. I left myself a note so that I didn’t accidentally drive off with the loose part still inside. I did this on two different occasions. The residual temp was over the 200f requirement for 30 min.

Follow the VHT timing directions to avoid any wrinkles when putting on the gloss.
