Couple of new toys. Nice drag bikes. I can run a Goldwing in circles around it .

Not the most comfortable bike to ride but a fun ride!! Nice brotha!

V rod = drag bikes with questionable handling. Goldwing outweighs it by 300lbs and still can out handle the V rods.

'08 marked the updte of the VRSC models, with the larger 240 rear tires and larger 1250 engine. Harley really needs to put this engine into a different frame to see its potential in use.

Speaking of goldwings, I heard they had an original goldwing gl1000 engine in the shop when they were designing the v-rod, looking for engineering pointers like the fuel pump etc.

Nice!

I picked up new Night Rod Special in the flat black a few months ago. Almost 8 feet long, 25" seat, 34 degree rake .. gobs, and gobs of power. The only mods the wife would allow in this years budget were blacked out handle bars, foot controls, and hand levers .. bra, and I hard wired our condo door remote into a switch off the horn housing. :D

The thing is an absolute blast to ride...

=foot forward controls.

Seems odd to ride a bike in the same position that you'd drive the cruiser in. If you want to enjoy that experience in armchair seating, all the power to ya I guess.

Must be an age thing...

Harley no longer makes a VRod with mid controls, although the parts can still be purchased from Harley and convert a new VRod into a mid control (more like crotch rocket rear control). See the pic below.

I've seen that in the catalogue - the alternate controls.

My night rod special is a combo of the two drawings above - the red foot position, but the black hand position. On the freeway at 90 mph or so without any windshield it's almost like being a parachute in that position. A blast none the less.

A 10 year old 600 cc rocket bike is going to kick a Vrods ass in all classes of race. By the way how much heaver could HD get the stearing?

It's still the same design though. Harley would rather design new t-shirts than come up with a new bike design. Save for the VRod, I find Harley designs to be as outdated as their engines.

There is more money in shirts than their bikes...

There is more money in shirts than their bikes...

I can't figure out how none of the other manufacturers can figure this out.

Harley guys will go to the dealer whenever they travel to get a t-shirt with the name of the place they're at on it. Harley riders will plan rides around dealerships. Dealerships plan rides.

Honda is closed early on Saturday and all day Sunday and has lame T-shirts.

Harley has successfully transformed itself from a manufacturing company to a brand (marketing) company. While other would like to argue its weakness in product, process, or manufacturing, the fact remains that it is one of the strongest brands in existance today.

If you want to look at a parallel, there is a company that makes one line of computers, one line of handheld computing device, and a phone. Yet, everyone walks around scooping the golden poop from its CEO. That is brand management.

Another company makes a durable 4X4 and bunch of enthusists sprang up around the world. Many forums and websites are dedicated to this single line of vehicle. You get the point.

If you are still not convinced, spend some time (and money) downloading the HBU articles on Harley and brand management.

Sturgis, the largest US bike rally starts next week. There are more Harleys there than all the other brands combined.

It's not the destination, it's the journey.
