what do you guys recomend for a used pickup for driveway plowing, its about 150ft with a 100ft wide entrance, plus a 100 ft wide parking area. and to also use the truck for bringing stuff to the dump, and other yard work. Recomandations under 5k and under 10k. thanks a lot.

4 wd auto. Best to borrow a friends truck for this task.....

wasn't there someone looking to shovel driveways to shed a few pounds awhile back?

1980 or so chev 4x4 pickup, cost you about 1500, do all you want, no need for any more then PL/PD insurance, carbed, manual hubs, rough, works.

Ah you guys live in some nasty snowbelt...

We had a '76 chev 3/4 ton 4x4 with a meyers plow. Worked great! We used it for our own driveway & made extra $$ plowing out neighbors....

DUDE AMEN!! i was going to say the same thing when i started reading this thread, though no monster machine it is more than ample to do all the work mentioned and go a hell of alot loger than that chevy klunker for 1500.

I have hauled a trailer WITH another toyota on it (trailer brakes) and it is no speeder it will haul and do some stuff that a full size will do with exception to the larger bed (and you can wheel it with some 30-31 on it and stiil do all the same "chores") hands down for what you described any of toyota minis would be fine.... think cruiser- scaled down a smidge and lighter withe just as large axle shafts

what are the modles of the toyo's 79-83 minis calles. thanks. thats what im really looking for, a reliable, toyo truck. cheap

The problem with getting a mini like mine is RUST, esp since you are from the NYC area ( near NJ where I am). Also rust aside, they are tough to find in general. If there were more solid axle front end mini around I would deff own a few more!

My truck is a 1979, the first year of the 4x4 mini. It was owned by a church to do their lot, then they gave it to me. The truck only has 37,000 miles on it, however it has TONS!!!!!!!!! of rust! The frame has been welded many times!

It is however a plowing monster, it was pushing piles last year that the big Diesels were moving! I also plowed a road from a campground and the owner was amazed that I plowed it with " that little truck". It has an underhood hyd belt driven Fisher plow, which the plow shops claim is the best type set - up because it will never freeze and it is stronger than the elec hyd pumps. On newer trucks they can't do belt driven pumps because there is usually no room under the hood.

I have the 247B, second generation of this rig. I know a lot of guys who plow professionally with these rigs. They are great in powder and they drill through the track, leaving grade 8 bolts sticking out 3/4" for the hardpack stuff. The modified tracks work good on ice, powder, and hardpack. The closed cab has heat and a/c.

If I ever move up the hill where it snows, I'll hang out a shingle and start powing too.... :D

Get something fullsize, old, auto tranny for hauling ass in reverse, and a gas engine that will start when it's cold. If you have a 10K budget you could probably buy one every couple weeks for the next couple years rather than spend that kind of money on a single vehicle.

I'm a Ford guy - I'd look at late 70's F250/350 for this job.

I have my 89 toy for yard work and plowing. The starter needs to be replaced right now, but it's been plowing my yard for 3 years without any trouble. it's absolutely amazing how much snow the thing will push for such a small truck. I've put maybe 50 bucks into it in the last 3 years, and it's got almost 200k on it.
