This landuse email about Utah comes to you from Del Albright.

UTAH UNDER THE GUN FROM OUTDOOR INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION

Outdoor Industry Association (businesses making a living off the great outdoors) launches massive attack on Utah for more land restrictions, this time in the form of a new Monument Proposal that 100 businesses signed onto and sent to President Obama. I don’t think anyone asked Utah what they thought….???

Some companies that are in the forefront of closing lands seem to include: Teva, CamelBak, Moab Coffee Roasters, North Face, New Belgium Brewing, and more. I’m really surprised that REI did not sign on as they are usually in the lead for more Wilderness and motorized restrictions.

Pdf with companies listed: http://www.delalbright.com/Access/Canyonlands letter.pdf
BRC Alert and what to do: https://www.sharetrails.org/alerts/2012/11/14/another-massive-national-monument-pushed-in-utah

National leaders are taking a counter action to this, but you can help too. Go to the BRC alert and do what you can.

Thank you,
Del

Hey Del,

thanks for all of the effort that you and all of the other land use warriers are doing to try to preserve our trails.. i am up in Canada and reading of all the land and trail closures really makes me mad.. i dont understand how all of these radical envirnmentalists feel they are doing anyone a favour when the lands and trails they close affect the local and surrounding economys as well as taking something away from people like you and me, of which is 4x4ing and exploring our terrific land..

all of these businesses that have signed onto this letter to the president obviously rely on customers to stay in business.. would it be in our best interest to write/phone these places and tell them that as potential customers, we would avoid doing business with them based on their decisions to follow these radicals? obviously, i dont have anything to do with any of those local businesses on that letter but some of the bigger names are definitelly seen here in Canada.. i would have no problem calling and telling these people that i will in no way support their buisness based on their decision to follow the outdoor industry association..

money is sometimes short on my end but a phone call is cheap.. i feel that if anyone can send a message to businesses that dont support our interests, it is us.. we have to remember that these business need us to stay in business and if we boycott them, i think it would send a strong message for them to at least get them to educate themselves and realize that who they are supporting is wrong and to hoefully look into both sides of this story and make a more educated decision on who to support..

thanks again Del.. you and everyone who works with you to keep our trails open is always much appreciated..

Jason.
