Thanks for being very outspoken. Claudia Ball and I met 11/13 in Sutter Creek with Shelly Abajian a staff member from Senator Feinstein's Fresno Office for 2 1/2 hours discussing the parking issue. It was a good meeting. I am now working with the San Francisco, staffer Gina Banks, who will be doing her ground work and getting back to me next week.

What I need for folks to do now is to flood the SF office with phone calls and even a short one paragraph letter opposing this whole parking issue, or even do both. It would be great if both is done. Please fax letters instead of mailing, due to the whole scanning of mail issue. The following is offered:

Senator Diane Feinstein
ATTN: GINA BANKS
No. ! Post St., Suite 2450
San Francisco, CA 94104
(415) 393-0707
FAX (415) 393-0710

We stressed that we are in a count down mode of January, 2009 and the public needs to show they are serious about this issue. I have dropped a letter to the retirees that signed the petition requesting they do the above also. I believe if the retireee's would speak up that too would go a long way.

Please spread the word far and wide Steve.

Such shortsighted exclusions of the Forest Users that take care of these places will destroy the respect, cooperation, and work that unknown individuals and groups have done to keep such places clean and open. You will make fools out of all who have demonstrated respect for Uncle Sam's Forest Rangers. Such stupidity will destroy the Please Leave It NRA Klean and other Wise Use Conservation movements, and lead to nothing but needless confrontations, and GLEOT Guaranteed Law Enforcement Over Time.

You do not need special funding or further wasteful studies for Line Officers to exercise some Common Sense by ordering that the U.S. Forest Service, planned, authorized, built, and maintained these Log Landings as integral parts of FS System Roads, and therefore they ought to be and actually are open for parking because they are physically parts of the roads.

Steve, I just wanted to forward a reply I got from the Forest Service in regards to all the shooting areas on Bonetti Road. Basically they will be open, you just cant drive up to them after January 1st. you will need to park on Bonetti road and walk into them. Is this something we want to work on with Duane Nelson?

Rick

Hi Rick,

You are correct about the shooting areas off of Bonetti road. The turnouts are not designated so motor vehicles will not be allowed to drive into them and park. Folks will need to park at the entrance to those areas and then walk in to shoot. As far as I know, the Placerville district is not planning to analyze these areas for designation in the immediate future. I don't know what the long term plans are for those areas. I believe their priority is providing designated campsites in the Silverfork road area.

Is FOENF still planning on staffing the MET info station on January 3 and 4? I'm asking because I found out that Dana Holland, from the Sacramento Jeepers club, is working on having volunteers at the info station on every weekend from January through March. Dana is working with a number of groups that are part of Cal4Wheel. I believe the first weekend is covered but he is still looking for help on some later weekends. Dana's cell number is 916.812.2578 if you're interested in coordinating with him. If FOENF is interested in being out on the first weekend in Jan., there are other areas besides MET at which you could provide info to the public. Ice House road is one example. Let me know if you want to discuss this.

Jason, I was wondering if anything has been said about having acess to the popular shooting areas on Bonetti Road?
per the final map, none of those turnouts would allow vehicles to drive into them other than 10N55T . The three most popular ones would not allow vehicles up to them.
can you tell me what the Forest service plans to do with those areas?
