USFS PLANNING RULE MEETINGS ANNOUNCED FOR NORTHERN REGION

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

This is an important UPDATE to the alert we blasted last Friday.

As the alert said, the Forest Service is revising the regulations used to formulate Forest Plans (known as the Planning Rule). The agency has said it is committed to an open collaborative approach, and has announced several national and regional meetings. Nationwide, the collaborative process includes a Science Forum, three National Roundtables and Roundtables in nine Regions. More information is available on the FS Forest Planning webpage.

The FS recently announced the schedule for Regional Roundtables in Region 1 (Northern Region), which encompasses Montana, northern Idaho and North Dakota. Three meetings will be held concurrently in the Northern Region on April 13, 2010, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm in Montana and 8:30 am to 3:30 pm in Northern Idaho. The locations for the three meetings are:

Missoula, MT (Holiday Inn Parkside, 200 S. Pattee Street) Billings, MT (Custer National Forest Headquarters, 1310 Main Street) Coeur d'Alene, ID (Idaho Panhandle National Forest Headquarters, 3815 Schreiber Way)These meetings are open to all, and there is no fee involved. However, to ensure that there is sufficient space, you are being asked to register as soon as possible. You can register online at http://www.fs.fed.us/r1/projects/planning.shtml.

The three meetings will be connected via video teleconference at the beginning and the end of the meeting for information sharing. Click here for additional information and to download the agenda for these Roundtables.

Following the meetings, FS staff in Missoula will be available at the Holiday Inn Parkside to provide information to the public and to answer questions.

You can view our Friday alert for more info, and if you plan to attend any of the meetings, please feel free to use our comments to help you provide input at the meetings.

We also have an ACTION ITEM prepared for those who can't make it to the meetings and still want to do something to help.

As always, please call or email if you have any concerns or questions.
