This is a very useless topic but I figure I'd better straighten it out in case we meet somewhere while I'm with my wife and you say "Hey Don." My wife may think I use a fake name while traveling...
A long time ago I traveled throughout Central America and met a very nice family in Guatemala. Down there they use "Don firstname" when respectfully addressing someone, usually an older gentleman or businessman. This particular family started calling me Don Juan, spanish for John for those not in the know. When I returned, I needed an email address so donjuanmiguel (Don John Micheal) seemed unique and has stuck.
I figured that was better than my college baseball nickname, peckerwood.
