As discussed, the MUD message board has become a great resource of communication. However, some feel there is a need for an informational home page for the club so it’s easier to find us when we point potential members and sponsors in our direction. It’ll be, basically, a club advertisement. I happen to agree and for those who were at the last meeting probably remember that I was nominated to put together this home page.
Here’s what I am thinking. The best way to hand this is something simple in both composition and spread. Ease of maintenance and ease of viewing are things to keep in mind to help make it easier for the club like ours without a full-time webmaster to handle.
I think it could be managed in a few pages total and include some of the following information (not necessarily in this order).
1. Mission Statement- We need to include some sort of “mission” statement, nothing more than a small paragraph that states what our club is all about. Perhaps the new execs can help me locate this.
2. New Member info- Information about how to join, dues etc.
3. Sponsor info- All the information potential sponsors need to know to get involved, perhaps brag a little about our volunteer work?
4. Links- a list of link to other clubs, Land cruiser history (?), other relevant info
5. A Sponsor “thank you” list- thanking our supporters
6. It can also include direct links to our Upstate board on MUD, and more specifically to the “member’s rigs” sticky, and “club pictures” sticky etc.
7. Club Executives contact list.
I think the way we handle club events on MUD is fine. We may want to add a “non-response” events sticky that simply lists the upcoming events, one post per event, including who, what, where, when info after the discussion and planning for them is over. Separate threads for the specific event planning and discussion will remain. This will help organize our events schedule in a way that I can have ONE link from the homepage to ad easily updateable thread. Low maintenance. JP: I will talk to you more about this.
What do you guys think? What am I missing? I am 100% open to ideas. I can handle all the graphics of it and I’ll keep you updated as I make more progress. What about a member list with names and locations? Founding members? Let me know!
There, it’s officially open for discussion. Below are some links to other site I am “webmaster” for. If you see any features you like, I can try to include them. Bear in mind they have not been updated yet for the fall semester.
