Update on PWC Access to Biscayne National Park - New Petition Needs Your Signature
Before I ask for your help, here is a quick reminder on why Personal Watercraft (PWC) access is important to Florida's Biscayne National Park. First, the park is a popular boating destination, comprised of more than 172,000 acres of water and presently enjoyed by all types of boats, except PWCs. In 2000, PWCs were banned without any local, site-specific scientific cause.
The National Park Service ban includes the 17-mile stretch of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) that runs through the park. Therefore, PWC operators must travel around the park, 12 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean, rather than travel 2 to 3 miles inshore along the ICW. This presents a potentially unsafe situation that can be fixed very quickly. Join the BOAT Biscayne Coalition's campaign and get involved today.
The BlueRibbon Coalition, as a part of the BOAT Biscayne Coalition, continues to work hard to restore PWC access along the Intracoastal Waterway in Biscayne National Park. We've been meeting with local, state, and federal officials about this issue, and recently received support from the National Marina Manufacturers Association and the Marine Industries Association of South Florida.
