Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, also known as Lake Powell, has just announced a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Deepen Castle Pock Cut EA.
The FONSI, signed by National Park Service Regional Director Mike Snyder on November 3, 2008, will allow the preferred alternative, which is to deepen the channel depth of Castle Cut Rock to 3,580 foot elevation. According to the Bureau of Reclamation, "At the 3,580 feet level, the Castle Rock Cut should be open 82 percent of the peak boating season."
This will be very positive for all recreational boaters who enjoy visiting the Lake.
The BlueRibbon Coalition would like to thank all those who commented on the EA in March of 2008. Your comments in support of the preferred alternative made a difference.
