Here's the new fairlead built from 2" thick oil impregnated UHMW. That, along with a metal backing plate, and extra BIG size should prevent any deformation. Honest, those air holes really help with cooling :D ... no I dont have plans to run the cable on it.... working on the syn. rope.

What's the backing plate? Is the UHMW dowelled to the backing plate?

Apparently Junk's design has a lip on the plastic that sticks into the opening of the bumper. That should support most of the side forces, I'd say it's way overbuilt if that lip is deep enough. A row of screws or dowel pins, or just making it massive like yours, would be other good designs. I don't have and have never used a winch, but I design and build industrial machines. We use a lot of UHMW, good stuff but you have to support it well.

We make a lot of small parts out of it, scraps are too small or I'd be bringing them home.
