Met a guy here on the old navy base that has a 60. Seemed entererest in the club so I gave him a flyer. He also has a house in Sennaca so you guys in the upstate may hear from him before too long.

Marshall, he needs some cruiser parts and his wife likes rugs so I gave him your name.

More AVL trucks . . . .

Lots of Asheville trucks on the block. Here is one I've been following for a while. It was up earlier on Craigslist for 26K. What's the deal with these diesel imports? Anything to look for?

If he fixed those dents in the back then I say it's worth every penny. That was a really nice cruiser.

def. worth the money I was saying it wasn't, I was just kidding about the price.

the only real deal for them (other than the usual stuff to look for in a used vehicle) is sourcing parts.

You can get any parts from them from a hose to a rebuild kit online but your not going to be able to go to autozone and get a water pump if you need one.

Great vehicles if you have another vehicle to drive around if you need parts or don't mind renting a vehicle.

many times it's much cheaper to swap in a USDM diesel into a vehicle that used to be a gasser

cummins and isuzu parts suppliers are many times open 24hrs and can be found conviently near the innerstate

And mercedes is also a great choice for a diesel for the 40

even the perkins diesels are a pretty good choice since they are still in harvesters used today and you can get their parts both online and at your local dealer.

most diesels require overdrive, most diesels can be easily fitted to a GM auto tranny or nv4500

the h55f doesn't have as good of an overdrive so for the cummins/isuzu/perkins diesel if you only have an h55 you will need 4:11 or taller gears plus 35" tires or bigger. 3:73 and 35" tires would work very well. Any smaller and you won't have a very friendly hwy vehicle. only 16% od on the h55 compared to the 27% on ranger od, 700r4 and nv4500.

an h55 with ranger od would be super sweet!!! 75mph cruising with speed to spare. Would be like cruising in any modern day suv

a ranger overdrive will allow you to run your stock h42. With stock 3:7 gears and 31" tires you will get a very comfortable hwy rpm at about 62mph

33" tires about 65-68

the mercedes om617 will rev like a gasser but will get better mpg and cruise more comfortably with overdive, rubber overdrive would work well....4:11 and 35" tires could get you 65 easily. 3:7 gears 35's and a sm465 tranny would get you a 40 that would do 70mph to the trail and pull nice and low on the trail

i've got a 40 until the right scout II, early bronco or diesel series/non NAS defender comes along!

nice but i'm looking for trades

i don't like dealing with the hassle of selling/buying

Yes, because money exchanging hands is such a hassle, I prefer to barter when I go to the grocery store too...:grinpimp:

whenever possible i prefer to barter

many times i've made more money bartering my skilled trade than i would if they had just given me cash.

Food for thought on the tire size . . . . I have always liked the stock look of my 40 and can get it to 65-70 in 4th on the highway. The RPMs at that speed (no tach) seem excessive. So, when its time to replace, I may consider larger tires as a n OD/5th gear. I would desire to keep any LC as stock as possible as the joy, to me, is in experiencing the vehicle the way Mr. Toyoda intended it, however rough that may me.

Still, JP's project has got me interested in restoring a 45 lwb. Last winter, I was able to work on Jay's 40. With my 40 pretty much complete, I'm bored with going home and watching 30 Rock re-runs, while drinking beer..... Rather be using power tools and drinking beer.

If you are super bored, I got a 60 that needs a suspension, bumper etc... I can bring it up to your spacious garage and we can fire up the old propane heater again just like old times... I'll even let you spill some POR 15 if it rehashes nostalgia...

Good to see you're getting that itch again David....I was starting to wonder about ya

And I'm with Marshall I'll never sell....even if I am broke....atleast I can still look at it and sit in it....if I sold it then I'd be sittin on the damn ground...and it's cold out there

Jay,

Done both on a 62, with a little help from my friends. ARB no problem. Suspension? The only hard part is cutting off the old bushings and not running out of PBR.

Gimp,

The good news is I think you found the rest of the CSS Hunley.

Chuck,

I have been working too much at work in the last year, will try and get my priorities straight again.

Marshall,
I remember putting that locker in Jp's old 60. I tried to buy Todds 33s, but he had already sold them.
