Ok so my trucks been making this random clunky wineing noise that would go away in 4wd but come back and be irratating in 2wd the odd time making it in 4wd any ways .. last night i was driving in 2wd and my tundra made a lovely thump pop noise and (no grinding one break noise) all of a sudden im not moving any more and rolled to a stop hmm well thats a doosey.....
so i put it in 4wd and tried to make my way back home and then the same noise and she rolled to a stop... can any one help me with whats broken u can put it in drive and the d shafts obsly dont move transfer case ? trany? thanks

I drained the oil on the transfer case and it was still golden cleaner than i suspected with no sign of metal or breakage it looks like theres chains inside i have never opened a toyota transfer case ever does any one know a link to show what the inside looks like? im stranded currently taking the insurance off and insuring the 91 pickup to drive to oliver from kelowna 4 work fun.... nothing like unbalanced bush truck down the highway
anyways any help is greatly appriciated !

Not familiar with the tundra case... but if its anything like my 4runner case its chain drive, and the chain drives the output shaft. I would try draining your rear, it sounds like it could be the culprit especially if the T-case fluid isn't all metal. If you put it in 4x4, its possible (if you didn't have a locked center diff) to still not move if the rear isn't getting power.
Drain rear, report back.

Did you hit the case with a hammer to make sure the motor wasn't stuck or anything?
Does it move in low range?

More than likely the tranny - 4th gear was very problematic on these. Never heard of a tcase going out, though it's possible.

im currently on a library computer.... in oliver not near my tundra neways the truck broke starting with the rearend not getting power i clicked it into 4wd and the there was still power to the front wheels then that broke on the way back driving ... the transmission shifted nice there was no problems there although i did hear a few strange clunky noises only in 2wd not in 4wd i think its the transfer case.. it doesnt move in low range either :( the drive shafts wont move but u can hear the truck shift into 2nd while running it thanks again!!!
ill try and get on a computer when possible !!

it wasnt the transfer case the noise was caused from the pin in the middle of the spyder gears broke and the spyder gears flew all over the diff the gears almost look good but im getting new ones nothing left in the carrier fml... any ways it was NOT the transfer case im working on getting around to checking the front..
