There is an amazing article called “To Skagway the hard way (and then some)” in Toyota Trails, it pretty much outlined a trip that I was planning on taking with my wife Jen when we get our 80. Was a great read and could not put it down. What are peoples thoughts on that kind of a trip?

That was a great story! Its the kind of thing I'm planning to get in upon retirement. Getting out and seeing
nature is what I enjoy best. The less people around the better.
My list of travels to do,
Alaska
Hudson Bay
Newfoundland
Baja Mexico
Panama ( lived there for 2 years in my younger days and want to go back)
Desert Southwest
I have traveled around in some of the areas that are mentioned in that article. I have a freind who lives in Fairbanks. We have been fishing and driving around(without a cruiser). I have been in the area of where the Alaska cruiser treks take place, near where the Talketna mountain trip this year was. One day(late june) we got to the bridge that crosses over to Mcarthy at about 6pm. We had a 7 hr drive to Denali the next day so we went up to the Kennicot mine that night. We rented a couple of mountain bikes and rode up to thge mine. In June it never gets totally dark. It is dusky from about 10pm to 3am. We went about a mile above the mine and sat on a big boulder. We saw the glowing sunset to the west. We were probaly 100 miles or more from the ocean, could see it clearly. No lights, no noise, no planes- it was truly an amazing experience. Interior Alaska is so beautiful and HUGE. I have a deal with my freind to do an Alaska cruiser trek- maybe 09 or 10. He used to have a cruiser and I have been trying to get him to buy another-no luck yet. he was back in October and we did a little wheeling outback. I have been building my pig with the idea of taking it to Alasksa.
wow great to see people share he same interests for the great yonder
Lane if every thing goes to plan it will happen in 3 or 4 years wife has to finish school and I need to get an 80 and build it up for the trip. My neighbor wants to sell me his 80 next year after I help him lift two of his trucks he wont need it anymore, in addition the 80 has front and rear lockers so hopefully it all works out
Rapovt you wouldn’t have any pic’s or your teck across Alaska would you? Sounds like you had the trip of a lifetime
Bring them!
Love to see stuff about Alaska! Have a lot of books on Alaska sitting on the shelf, the place
seems to be almost sacred.
Alot of good pics if you Google the Alaska Treks, I also like Alaska 4x4's site.
They put up pics of alot of their runs.
Anyone been to see "Into the Wild" yet?
Some good footage near Denali.
