Advice needed, but maybe Selling my '55, and possibly my '97 Jeep TJ Wrangler

Guys, I guess more or less looking for ideas or advice on what I should do. :meh: Right now, it is a toss up, but leaning towards selling both of these vehicles. I just do not have the money to keep both nor fix them both up. They also do not provide the room I need.

I have a 1973 FJ-55, that has a '74 2-f engine. She needs quite a bit of work. IE. New interior, replace both front fenders and hood, body work, rust repair etc. She will run, but cuts off after a few minutes, so needs a little engine work.

I also have a 1997 Jeep TJ, 6 cyl. Manual It needs a new soft top, and drivers door lock fixed, I have the interior panel off to access the door mech to get in.

I believe I want to sell BOTH vehicles, and grab something a little better for me, the wife and my four kids. I need a daily driver.

If I did sell or trade both vehicles, I am looking for something older, that has room, but still can go off road, and look a little mean. I camp, and do some minor four wheeling trails. Possible a Suburban, or something of that nature. I would like to get half way decent gas milage, IE: above 14mpgs.

My wife has a 2002 Ford Windstar, so we got the soccer mom mobile. :D

I just want some ideas. And if someone is interested, I will entertain offers, trades, etc. I can send photos, or let you take a look at them. I live in the Inman area. Thanks guys.

It will be hard to get better than 14 mpg out of a Suburban, especially loaded.

FYI I get 15 to almost 17 mpg out of my Pig, SOA on 35's - but the motor and entire fuel system including carb have been rebuilt.

If you want something with more interior room, DD capable but with some off road capabilities and good mileage your options will be a bit limited. Do you have a price range? That could dictate a lot.

sell the jeep. Sell the 55. Get a 62

sell the jeep. Sell the 55. Get a 80

fixed it for ya :D
Not gonna be great on gas mileage though but you can dig one up for 5 grand on most given days. Mileage stock will be 12-15 around town and go down from their with accessories and tires. However in stock configuration with 33's its a great truck to DD and take on the weekend runs. and youll have money left to do some maintenance should it arise.

How 'mean' do you want the look?

A built 60 or 62 might fit the bill. Looking at $8-10k there for well built.

About the same for an 80 but more creature comforts.

Hundies don't look too 'mean' but are more comfy...

That would be a great vehicle for me, but do not have that amount of money to invest(per the WIFE)! :censor:So, I guess I may have to find one that is not built, that I can add items to slowly. :bang:

U can get a 60 or 62 fairly reasonable to rebuild. My pos ( oops i meant 60)was 1200 but needs major body work and lots of mechanical work as well. Just depends on how big a gorilla u want to tackle. Apparently i bought king kong.

I have a line on an 83? i think FJ60 with a V-8 swap (with many proven years) for 5k.
PM me if your interested. It has a recent tan primer paint job and white top, rear fender lips repaired, Interior converted to gray w/ newly stained panels and new seat covers (i think) Solid front bumper and in pretty good shape overall.
