Glad to see you will be doing this yourself. I did my first birf job last weekend in a little under 6 hours with the help of a long time mechanic buddy of mine. He had never done a LC birf job before and there were a few instances where I had to humbly correct some work he had done. My only expertise came from watching Jim Reiss's birf teardown video, the FSM and the ample information on this site and others.
To add on to Darwood's tool list, you will certainly want a torque wrench and a parts washer. I had a lift and all necessary hand tools, but no parts washer. However, if I had the choice between a lift and parts washer, a parts washer would win hands down... In other words, a parts washer is key to making this job go a little quicker...
