Go Jess, Go!

I read an old thread about a 300td motor in an FJ40.

Lots of potential!!!!!!!!!!!!

The kit is installed! I drove to work today for pennies(30 mile round trip.)

diesel in a 60?

Jes,

after our conversation yesterday and your statement about getting to work for pennies and the present state of my engine, I have really gotten to thinking alot about the diesel conversion idea. I read the account on the tech forum of a guy who put a gm diesel into a 40. It sounded like he had to weld a few things here and there and do a little reshuffling. Just off the top of your head, how much modification and difficulty would be involved in setting a diesel into an fj60?

Anyone else interested in this (Greg...) feel free to respond.

In my present situation this is no idle thought.

Best info here

Budget $4K minimum, probably more like $6k not including the tools you (or I) would need to buy to pull it off.

Why so expensive? I thought you could get a GM motor at a junkyard.

From that website:
"... recoup the $4K plus time & labor I have invested in this project even if I were to get 25 MPG. At least not for a long time. Most conversions cost substantially more than $4K."

Neither of us have the resources this guy started with. We also don't have the $75 dollar truck the guy started with. A good running 6.2 usually brings around $750-$1000. Then start adding everything else.

LOTS of stuff you don't plan for... that's the answer to your question above.

Yeah, I read it. Looks like it's back to the search for a head. Thanks anyway.

Can I borrow a precision straight edge for a few hours from someone out there in Cottonland? I want to go ahead and order a head from cruiserparts but I'd like to be a little more confident that my block isn't severely warped first.

PM Texican (Butch Baker) before you buy. Butch might have a good head. (if he hasn't been drinkin').

Good luck!
